Why Cowboys lobbied for Hall of Fame game

08:53 AM ET 08.03 | Quarterback Tony Romo will not play in Sunday's Hall of Fame game. He's not alone. A large number of starters were informed by Cowboys coaches last night that they will not take the field against the Miami Dolphins in the NFL's pre-season opener. Their first action will come one week from today on Aug. 9 against the Oakland Raiders. So, why did the Cowboys lobby for an additional pre-season game only to keep the majority of their key players on the sideline? The club values the additional practice time that comes from opening training camp early more than the fifth game itself.

This is going to be the most boring sports event ever aired. It better not go up against Amish mud wrestling, or their in trouble.

Jerry wanted the Boys in the HOF game simply because it puts him on TV. This little event counts for less than even the regular preseason games.

OK, but while these guys are traveling and playing second through fourth string players against second through fourth string players are not the other 31 teams practicing?

Looks like a wash to me. Didn't seem to do much good for the Cardinals or Saints who played in last years game.

Romo ain't playing because he's overweight and out of shape. He could use the reps but not the injury risk.

I don't care.

Big Brother is on.

I can't wait to NOT watch this.

I remember when I wasn't watching the Pro Bowl earlier this year I wasn't thinking "Now it's just a little while till the Hall of Fame game!" And "I sure hope it's an epic battle of guys who will be grocery checkers in September!" Didn't say that, either. I clearly remember not saying either of those things.

They should let the cheerleaders play instead. Out in AZ they arrested one who beat up her boyfriend, so it wouldn't be all fun and giggles.

The Cowboys have a lot of Great Players in the Hall of Fame, maybe Jerry should give them a walking tour thru the Great Cowboy History!!!!!

Yup, back when JJ had nothing to do with it.

I'll watch a little bit of it, if for no other reason because there's nothing else on.

That Sir would be the very definition of fun and giggles. Watching some hot babe beating the stuffing out of her scumbag boyfriend. Beats watching Chef *****head throwing yet another temper tantrum.
