NHL looking for franchise in Seattle

08:38 PM ET 08.03 | It's possible that Seattle could be the next target for an NHL franchise. They had a chance earlier this year, when he Phoenix Coyotes had to option to leave Arizona, however they ultimately chose to stay put. Gary Bettman, the NHL Commissioner, is pushing for yet another expansion team. He is trying to get one before the start of the 2014-15 season, and Seattle looks like his first choice. Other viable locations could include Quebec City, Kansas City, Las Vegas, and possibly Portland. The Western Conference currently has two less teams than the East, so it makes sense that the next expansion teams will belong to the West. I think a new team in Seattle would be goo for the NHL. It allows for new rivalries to begin, and it also brings back some history to the NHL.

The talent's already so thin it could tread water in a garden hose.

Kansas City?

Seriously?

Sure, put a new team in each one of those cities. I'll get my old goalie skates sharpened because they'll be so low on talent I'll even have a shot. If not at the NHL then definitely in the AHL.

Yeah, I'll be sure to set time aside for a good ol' Habs/Vegas match up. Maybe I can get some Keno in between periods. Damn fool.

He's looking in all the wrong places, he is. If the ugly Coyotes don't want to move, look in Floriduh next.

Rex? I know I'm old but ... I'm not ready to be put in the extinct species category yet.

They have the rink and would be a natural rival for St. Louis but no one has stepped up there so I say doubtful definitely not expansion. Expansion would only be QC 2nd T.O. team and possibly but doubtfully Seattle. Portland apparently was behind the scenes inquiring about the Coyotes and if Seattle gets a team Portland will probably follow

Seattle and Quebec City have to the be leading candidates ... but only for relocation. No more expansion!

I rather KC than Portland or Seattle myself.

It's not outrageous. The facility is already here, built, capable to fill to NHL capacity (more than can be said to other places). If it can work in St. Louis, why couldn't it work here? St. Louis and KC are pretty much identical twins, except for an arch.

That being said, I don't think it would work that well. As a KC native and a hockey fan I'd like to say it would, but I don't think it would. Yet I don't see Seattle or Portland as more viable options either.
