Raiders designing plays for Pryor

07:05 AM ET 08.05 | Terrelle Pryor may not -- or, rather, very likely won't -- be Oakland's starting quarterback when the regular season opens, but that doesn't mean the Raiders will keep him holding a clipboard. The 24-year old has had an impressive start to training camp, showing vast improvements in accuracy and decision-making. While Pryor's still taking second-team reps behind presumptive starter Matt Flynn, sometimes unsure in his reads and sometimes late delivering the ball, his superiors have been impressed by his progress. ... [Said Pryor;] "It's just a package to get me on the field, and run the same plays that Matt Flynn, Tyler Wilson and Matt McGloin are running. It's the same stuff. It's just me, that and some pistol stuff. Stuff like that."

Kid showed some great talent in college, so would be good to get him involved. Maybe he can work in as a slot guy too, just as the Steelers were able to use the talent of past college QBs in other spots - like Ward and Randle El.

I think he'll see a fair bit of snaps.

Didn't know they had Tyler Wilson.

I will not be too surprised if he were to become the eventual starter, if not out of camp, then sometime during the regular season.

Thinking Flynn doesn't make six games. Pryor better built to take the punishment of being a 16 game NFL QB.

Designing plays just for Pryor suggests that Pryor lacks the football IQ to learn the regular plays.

So Fkynn is losing another open competition for quarterback?

August 5, 2013  10:13 AM ET

Don't look over your shoulder, Matt. Someone always seems to be gaining on you.

Really sounds like a loss of confidence.

August 5, 2013  11:53 AM ET

I'd make him a tight end.

Matt Flynn will be the starter. He will last if they have an offensive line that can block for him. Pryor will come in and play some type wildcat plays. Put on field at some point with Flynn and make the defense sweat.
Matt Flynn deserves his shot. Seattle screwed him over when they signed him then gave the job to another QB. Pete Carroll, if he is not cheating, he does not know what to do. Seattle will probably fall on their face this season.

In all fairness to Seattle, Russell Wilson is a very good and very exciting QB, regardless of where he was picked in the draft. I'm glad to see Flynn getting a chance, but it's hard to imagine that he will be the kind of game-changer that Wilson is.

Matt Flynn will NOT be the go to guy everyone thinks he will be. You can't tell me that with the emergence of Kepperdinck and Wilson they don't want their own version with a Terrel Pryor threat versus a boring drop back qb.
Pryor will start.

Making such a statement shows your lack of football knowledge. Have you ever heard of designing plays to take advantage of Pryor's unique skills? During his college days, Pryor was a double threat while gaining MVP status at the Rose and Sugar bowls.

August 5, 2013  02:12 PM ET

Matt McGloin? Wasn't he a Simpsons character?

Anyway, Matt Flynn may not be spectacular this year, but short of injury, I don't see him losing the starting job to Pryor, except maybe in the last 5 games if the season is in the toilet.

Flynn would have a good shot to start with Jets . look who he is competing against.
