Rambis not sold on Lakers keeping up

07:12 AM ET 08.05 | Credit Lakers assistant coach Kurt Rambis for his honesty during his short tenure with his old team. Coach Mike D'Antoni prefers a fast-paced offense but Rambis cautions that the coaching staff still needs to evaluate the players during camp, especially from a health perspective. Kobe Bryant is recovering from a torn Achilles' tendon. Steve Nash is almost done recovering from hip, hamstring and back injuries that bothered him late in the season. Gasol still hasn't been cleared completely from knee procedures to help alleviate tendinosis. "In order to run, you need a push guard. That's Steve Nash," said Rambis. "It remains to be seen whether he's coming back from his injuries, and continues to [push] at an elite fast-break pace."

Maybe Rambis can push out Dumbtonie?

Maybe if D'Antoni [literally] ran the drills with the team he'd understand why it's not a good idea to run old men so hard...

The only problem with that is, D'Antoni is probably faster and in better shape than, most of the current Lakers on the roster.

Ouch!

With the likes of Warriors and other younger teams that can play fast ball, Lakers cannot afford to run all the time. They have to pick their spots. Plus they need shooters that they don't have.

Running teams don't win NBA titles. You can't outscore your opponent consistently in the playoffs. If you play no D then you go home.

The Nuggets and Warriors and to some extent the Clippers are examples of teams not built to contend.

Good point. The last running team I can think of that won the NBA title was the showtime Lakers, with Magic Johnson and they had a decent defense.

Nash looks like Vujecic in the picture. Same number but Vucecic has a better game in a Laker une than Nash...

Never said GSW would win :-). They just make older teams work harder to defend.

Under Dumbtonie's system, regardless of the players involved, Lakers will never win a ring.

Interesting choice of Rambis there. Is this a sign of Phil's influence on top levels?
I don't see Dumby staying past this season. Unless he surprise us all, something I hardly believe can happen.

I wouldn't necessarily say running teams can't win championships but the problem is there are teams like the heat who can run with you and also play slow ball, the only time running truly works is when you can truly run another team off the court and to do that you need to be defensively talented to force turnovers and bad shots and take offenses out of rhythm (make teams play your style)

Not a chance. Any of the Lakers can beat him easily in any athletic competition.
