Rookie in line to protect Rodgers' back side

07:09 AM ET 08.06 | Green Bay feared the worst for Bryan Bulaga's knee, and that news came to pass Monday. The Packers appear ready to take a long look at rookie David Bakhtiari as the replacement for injured left tackle [Bulaga]. ... [The] team seems inclined to play Bakhtiari at left tackle and keep Marshall Newhouse at right tackle. Bakhtiari, a fourth-round draft pick, has been one of the surprises in training camp and in a week worked his way from playing mainly as a backup left tackle to competing with Newhouse for the starting job at right tackle. Though Newhouse started 29 games at left tackle the last two seasons before moving to right tackle in May, the Packers appear to think Bakhtiari is more talented and better suited to block pass rushers on quarterback Aaron Rodgers' blind side.

His "back side" or his "blind side". Rodgers can protect his own back side. He hopes.

Not going to work... I see they signed Vince Young.

I read all of the "reasons" they did this - sounded like a load of baloney to me. If they needed a scout team QB for imitating Seattle and San Fran, they could have found a dozen better guys.

Better do a discount double-check, Aaron.

Agreed. They should be more concerned about their division, instead of the NFC West.

That Dom Capers defense is what's kept them from getting past the Divisional round the past couple of seasons. VY certainly isn't helping with that.

Just saw that too! wow..they better max protect Rodgers or their season is in the crapper real quick!

As long as the O line keeps the number of sacks less than 51, it will be a successful year.

For the left tackle slot?

That clipboard isn't going to hold itself, you know.

Hopefully the rookie can handle the job, he isn't the first guy to have that responsibility and it only means more blocking from the running backs. Rodgers has a quick release!!!

They were in trouble even before Bulaga was injured.
