07:04 AM ET 08.07 | Congratulations may soon be in order for veteran guard Brandon Moore. CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora is reporting that the Cowboys are finalizing a deal with [Moore]. Moore, who reportedly had thought about retiring even though he was coming off a stellar season last year with the Jets, was one of the best free agent offensive linemen available. As La Canfora writes, Moore "fills a need at a position where the team has suffered injuries. Dallas is working hard to restore its run game and Moore should be a boost in that regard." The Cowboys also had thought about signing free agent Brian Waters, but they must have had reservations about the fact Waters didn't play last season.

Eevn after a "stellar season, he's probably a free agent this late for a reason.

FA veteran who probably thought he would get more than the market dictated he would. Also noes Callahan so it makes sense.

And - I'm sure Callahan told him that the Butt-Fumble is not in the Cowboys play book.

Very nice O! I'm just glad JJ didn't throw good money at a guy to get off the couch as he has done a few times in the past.

August 7, 2013  07:49 AM ET

Oh JJ, when will it all end?

August 7, 2013  08:07 AM ET

This is one of the smartest if not the smartest moves JJ has made this off season. Low risk -- possible good return.

August 7, 2013  08:07 AM ET

Whoa Whoa Whoa Whoa....

He came off a stellar season with the Jets?

What does that look like?

Oh, butt-fumble.

August 7, 2013  08:14 AM ET

stellar by Jets standards, I guess

August 7, 2013  08:15 AM ET

Nothing very stellar at all with the Jets last season. That being said there wasn't anything stellar about the Cowboys line last year either.

Maybe this is more about helping out a rookie center make the right blocking calls than anything else. He can most likely still play well enough, but just maybe it was the guy on the right and left of the center in the past that was the real problem. Maybe.

With the injury to Livings, the rookie Frederick has been spliting time between C & G. This allows him to concentrate on what he was drafted for.

As far as the guys on the left and right last season... I'll go out on a limb and say Moore is better than either one of those two awful FA signings by the GM.

Good call. Fredricks needs to be surrounded by vets to expedite his progress.

Beat me to it.

Where I work it wouldn't even be a twig.

But anything done to that horrible O Line is an improvement.

He changed his mind. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

August 7, 2013  04:39 PM ET

Guess " imminent " doesn't mean what it used to.

He didn't want to leave his family, Next!!!

Cowboys try to get Moore-for less.

August 7, 2013  09:40 PM ET

Moore officially retired rather than play for the Cowboys.
