07:18 AM ET 08.07 | Now that Alex Rodriguez is back after missing the first four months of the season, what is it that the Yankees have in terms of an upgrade at third? [Does] the club still believe he is an above-average third baseman? "I don't know," general manager Brian Cashman admitted before Tuesday night's 3-2 loss to the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field, where Rodriguez went 1-for-2, walked and got hit by a pitch. "He has been above average at the position, but not the MVP player for a while. I know he will be better than what we have." Manager Joe Girardi used Rodriguez as the DH against hard-throwing lefty Chris Sale [Tuesday]. ... As for the crowd cheering when Rodriguez got plunked by Chris Sale, Girardi was perplexed. "There is something wrong with that and it starts with adults," Girardi said.

If he were still good he could silence some people, but he just makes it easy for everyone

If Girardi doesn't want to hear the boos, and doesn't want every pitcher trying to decapitate A-Fraud at the plate, it's simple: bench him.

Personally, I hope he continues to play and I hope some pitcher DOES knock his head off.

It shouldn't be long before he goes on the DL anyways.

Getting hit by a pitch is no picnic. It's potentially dangerous too and nothing any of us should applaud. Even if it is A-Rod.

ARod is fine. Sale didn't hit him intentionally.

I think Girardi was more irked by the way his team played. Again. Gardener too lazy to slide at home so a close call goes against him when it never should have been close, his failure to bunt the runner over to second and then the next guy up gets a hit but no runs score. Even Joe can only take so much for so long. He knows he is whipping a three legged horse.

That was the softest HBP in MLB this year.

.....all the soapbox people pile on with arod, while cheering on their way more juiced up heroes in football.....which has always been and still is the dirtiest game......the holier than thou crowd of so-called journalists, bloggers, and former players act like arod is some big exception, but most everyone in the sport looked the other way for years......hypocrosy reigns supreme........

The Sox lost 10 in a row before the hard hitting Yankees came to town

NY is done- they can't beat the padres or sox &their schedule coming up is rough.they need to start putting some of their guys on the waiver wire in the hopes they can even get a couple of crumbs back. And where the hell is pineda ?

Exactly. Pineda had a set back a few days ago, I think they will shut him down for the rest of the years.

I would just waive Joba, release him and bring up Belitances ( they guy has not allowed a run in relief in five weeks at scranton ). same for hughes. waiver wire.

Just waiting for september call up, hoping j.r. murphy and some others get a chance and girardi plays them. Girardi hates rookies though.

Start warren and put hughes in the bull pen where he belongs.

Agreed. When you are 10-1/2 back and behind 3 teams in August, you aren't making the playoffs. As for Pineda, anyone who thought he'd be contributing this year was nuts. Shoulder surgery takes 2 years to really come back from.

Maybe if the third baseman acted more like an adult and less like a narcissistic dewsh I could empathize with the manager.

But - I can't.
