Dantonio on the hot seat

07:26 AM ET 08.07 | The momentum from a pair of 11-win seasons came to an abrupt halt for Mark Dantonio in 2012, which sets up an interesting backdrop for 2013. This season becomes Dantonio's biggest test. He's entering his seventh year as the top man in East Lansing. Considering the revolving-door-like turnover of MSU coaches, seven years is deserving of a gold watch for length of service. ... The pressure is on Dantonio this season. And it should be. He was absolutely the right coach for Michigan State when hired in 2006. He's not like one of his coaching mentors, Nick Saban, who looked at his present job as a stepping-stone for future endeavors. Dantonio spends every waking moment working to push MSU football through that glass ceiling. But if he can't recover from last year's disappointment, perhaps there should be valid concerns.

This is part of a column from Drew Sharp this week. His opinion is (as usual) is certainly a minority opinion. No one seriouly thinks that Dantonio is on the hot seat at MSU.

Sounds like Kirk Bohls of the Austin American Statesman.

I'll throw out Mike Bianci of the Orlando fishwrapper.

In fact, I'd LIKE TO THROW OUT the guy, into the street on his ear...

Sparty may not have been world beater last year but wasn't awful by any means. All their games except the Central and Eastern Michigan games all the rest were very close except the 20-3 game with the domers. (That's still pretty close.) The Iowa game is the only one I can see that may be considered a black eye.

Me thinks they did pretty well considering the offense wasn't very good. Kept it close at least and had chances to win.

I would tell you to go ahead but... Mrs. GR might not like having to explain to the kids why she is having to bail their dad out of the pokey!

Mark Richt gets the same treatment from the AJC.

Second.

All in favor?

Spartens where not a bad team last yr. I think they cracked top 10 beginning of yr before falling to around 20. Had a few tough loss'es to ND & Buckeyes, but all in all it was a decent year.

Just a sports writer who is stirring the pot about something he has no idea about.

+1, HB. Dantonio is a fine coach. Sparty never had it so good.

I should hope not.
