07:28 AM ET 08.07 | Blues GM Doug Armstrong isn't much for deadlines when it comes to contract negotiations. "I don't make any deadlines because once you pass the deadline you're going to go back on your word or you've painted yourself in a corner," said Armstrong, whose last remaining task to complete the Blues' roster this summer is negotiating a deal with restricted free agent defenseman Alex Pietrangelo. "Our goal is to get Alex signed prior to training camp -- and I hope that's his goal, too." Even the start of training camp in mid-September isn't a firm deadline since talks between the Blues and Pietrangelo's agent, Don Meehan of Newport Sports Management, could carry both sides beyond that if things get sticky.

This wouldn't be a problem if it was the NFL.

Another great example of collusion. This kid is going to be a top-5 d-man in the league for years. Why wouldn't someone offer him ridiculous money, at least forcing the Blues to match and screw their cap up?

Might be saying something about Alex's agent, no?

Yes, it casts a Frost on the negotiations

LOL - I highly doubt Don Meehan was diddling Alex.

Pietrangelo's in no hurry to sign since he doesn't have 8 baby mamas to worry about...

Because .... tomorrow it's going to be your top-5 d-man or top-3 forward who gets yanked from under you. Besides, no GM will ever deal with you after that. Just ask Kevin Lowe.

Kevin Lowe does have a habit of making bad players rich.
When the opportunity comes along I would to see Nashville throw an offer sheet at one of Phillys up and coming RFA's, a little payback for the Shea Weber deal.

A good thing there are only so many Kevin Lowes and Pauls Holmgrens in this league! I don't think Dave Poile has it in him.

No kidding, but he'd been in and out already.
