07:32 AM ET 08.08 | Credit SMU running back Traylon Shead for faith in his new football program. [Shead], who transferred from Navarro College, is not lacking confidence -- in his ability to replace Zach Line and with his new team. "I think we can shock the nation," Shead said Wednesday. "We just have so much talent on both sides of the ball, and it's all coming together. We'll definitely shock some people." Shead, who rushed for 10,291 yards and 141 touchdowns at Cayuga High School, originally signed with Texas. After a redshirt season in 2010 and limited playing time in 2011 at Texas, he rushed for 1,194 yards and 17 TDs last season at Navarro. SMU coaches have been impressed with his quickness at 6-2, 225, as well as his ability to block and catch passes out of the backfield.

I'd love to see the ponies do well. But, just do it without a guy from Cayuga popping off.

...and you got three good shot "shock" opportunities early...Tech, A&M and TCU. Beat those three and the nation will be shocked.

On second thought, maybe not. Red Faders have a new coach, aggie has the JFF distraction and TCU is running out of O-lineman.

But, kudos for SMU playing a decent OOC schedule.

True dat. Even one win out of those 3 would be good - but I agree, the shock value ain't exactly huge with each team having some level of issue going on.

GG handing off to Shead, just rename school to UT-University Park

It would be shocking indeed if SMU beats A&M in College Station, less so for beating Texas Tech and TCU, although these are also away games. As far as A&M is concerned: whatever the Manziel fallout, the Aggies still have Sumlin at the controls.

See, it is possible to not leave the state and play a tough OOC schedule.

It helps having 12 FBS schools in the state

Why not the world.... like when Muhammad Ali shocked the world and beat Cassius Clay (heh heh heh- inside joke).

We have the Noles and the Canes this year. Not too shabby, I'd say.

Did not know that. Not too shabby at all, sir.

That is pretty good and would be damn good if you only had 3 OOC games. There are definitely worse OOCs that the gaduhs...even if OT doesn't like them staying in Florida.

Tech should take a lesson from SMU in OOC scheduling but they'd need to leave the state. They too stay in state but their other two are Stephen F Austin (FCS) and Texas State who is just moving up.

I think there should be a Texas Conference, all 12 Div 1 schools, Conference Championship Game at Jerry's World. That would really mess up conference realignment.

Somebody wake OT up and point this out to him, please?

He'd still point out they don't leave Florida.

Nah, too incestuous. Family league.

I have said the same thing about Florida during the early 00s.

And I would point out that UF does not need to.

South of the Mason Dixon only.

I think Ohio State could do the same thing with Toledo and Cincy.

UF also plays Toledo this year as well.
