Cuban rips 'Bud Selig's mafia'

07:16 AM ET 08.09 | Mark Cuban hit The Tonight Show on Thursday, joining Jay Leno for a chat that included the Mavericks owner's take on the A-Rod suspension. [Cuban:] Horrible. I think it's disgraceful what major league baseball is trying to do to him. Not that he doesn't deserve to be suspended. He does. But they have policies in place, first-time offender 50 games, second time a 100. 214 games? That's personal. My experiences with major league baseball. It's basically become Bud Selig's mafia. He runs it the way he wants to run it. When I was trying to buy the Rangers, it was an open auction. I sat in there with my good, hard-earned money trying to bid and they did everything possible to keep me from buying the team. They had lawyers in there trying to change the rules.

The man has a point.

Steinbrenner died - MLB doesn't want another vocal owner.

He may have a point but he needs to worry about his own mess in Dallas.

Yup, he is right in cue w/ Selig. Worse commissioner ever. Selig hates changes even if it benefits his sport...

Anyone can opine about some one else's shhyt. How's that stink in the Maverick Locker room?

Wow. Cuban really messed that team up.

It's not just Selig that didn't want Cuban to own the Rangers. For some reason Jerry Reinsdorf who owns the White Sox and the Bull hates Cuban. He was the hardline owner that didn't want Cuban to own the Rangers. When there was a rumor that Cuban was going to go for the Dodgers. Reinsdorf was there once again to put up the brick wall to say no to Cuban.

Teams in Dallas that have won a championship since the turn of the century, raise your hands!*Jerry's hands stay down**Nolan Ryan's hands stay down**Gagliardi's hands stay down*He'll be fine.

At least the Rangers have been to the playoffs and 2 World Series. The other two teams aren't worth a damn bag of crap!!!

Yet he still sells out games and is making a profit. Cuban is doing just fine and is the sole reason this team has been a contender period. He'll make them a winner again in the near future.

All true, but he HAD a winner until he tinkered and blew it.

He tinkered to avoid the luxury tax. He gambled by cutting salary hoping to bring in some big free agents and continues to gamble this way. He will eventually land a star or two. The fact his team still sells out games works heavily in his favor and say they become a lottery team this year. They will draw in some real talent and all will be praising his approach once they get a few solid players to show up there.

Same could be said of Jerry Jones, even though that team stinks way more often than not and one playoff win in forever.

QUOTE(#18):

speaking for myself-what bothers me about his 'gamble' is that he already HAD dirkwe all saw that dirk + filler was good enough to win a ringand he basically decided to waste several of his few prime yearsinstead of re-stocking and trying to win again.Dirk has gone to the finals twice, basically by himself and role guysthere was no reason to think he couldn't do it again

You're delusional... That championship team won because they were stacked top to bottom with solid players. They basically overworked the Heat the way San Antonio tried to this year and it paid off. That and Chandlers presence in the middle made a difference. Lebron was worn out guarding Terry, Stevenson and Barea because DWade couldn't cover either of them and Dirk carved up Bosh and whomever else guarded him. It was a solid team effort and Cuban couldn't afford to keep all the pieces in place going forward without a huge luxury tax hit which is why he blew it all up.
