07:18 AM ET 08.09 | Hindsight being 20/20, the Lakers can look back and wonder about the wooing of center Dwight Howard, which ultimately led to his signing in Houston. But Lakers executive vice president Jeanie Buss thinks one person had a chance -- her father, the late Dr. Jerry Buss. "They would've probably had a better relationship if my dad hadn't been sick," Jeanie Buss said in a wide-ranging interview with hosts Mark Willard and Mychal Thompson on ESPNLA 710 Thursday morning. "When it came time to try to convince Dwight to stay, we lost the best closer in the business in Dr. Buss. Putting up the billboard maybe wasn't the right thing. But we maybe have to learn to do things differently because Dr. Buss isn't here anymore.

Who give rat's a*s? Lakers fans didn't want him anyway, remember?

Yup, and not only Lakers fans but management didn't care much about keeping him. They had a freaking 1 year but yet they didn't cater him and acted like they didn't even need him. Now they're all sour graping and blaming it all on Howard...smh

"Buss: Father could have kept Howard"...

Now is this because she thinks:

1) Dr. Buss would have amnestied Kobe.

2) DHoward would have been to ashamed to act like a Jr High School girl with Dr. Buss.

3) This just a loving tribute to her late father.

My vote is split between numbers 1 & 3...

we didn't need him and we don't...we'll have one down year (this year) and still get a 7 or 8 spot in the playoffs then next year we'll be back strong and be right up near the top again, Lakers wont be down for long.....
