Most coveted pitcher this offseason

07:22 AM ET 08.09 | Rare were the teams that made significant moves at the deadline, thanks to fewer willing trade partners with the stomachs for a big deal. But the summer intransigence has become one more element, among many, that is leading some industry forecasters to predict that there will be an extremely active trade market in the winter -- a blizzard of deals. ... The upcoming free-agent market is expected to be weak and provide relatively little help for teams seeking an upgrade. Ervin Santana could be the most sought-after starting pitcher, given his solid showing this year and his age (he turns 31 in December), and unless Robinson Cano works out a new deal with the Yankees between now and November, he'll test a market with few buyers shopping in his price range.

It's a weak crop when a very inconsistant pitcher and a guy who thinks he's Rogers Hornsby are the best players available. It may take Cano a while to sign. He really seems to think he's in line for an A-Rod/Pujols/Votto type contract. That's not happening.

QUOTE(#4):

Agree with you on Cano Its one thing to give a 40-120 guy mega $ and mega years. But Cano isn't that and with all these recent mega deals bombing, not sure who's going to give him the loot he is searching for. He may have to be moved to dh after a few years, not sure who the last elite 2b guy was that played into his late 30sAnd ped-roid-a's contract is way less than what he was looking at

Cano has done nothing to raise his value so far this year. Lowered it actually, and his performance on that west coast trip has to give even the dodgers cause to hit the pause button.

It does seem like Magic wants to get broke or die trying though so maybe the Dodgers would be a fit after all.

Santana has bounced back nicely from a really bad 2012.

Most of the money belongs to other people, not Magic.

With the cash coming in through the local TV deal...he couldn't lose money if he tried.

the dodgers will soon be where the Yankees are there minor leagues get depleted because instead of trading player for prospects they just sign free agents. as they bring up what they have . when there is an injury replacements from minors gets thin.

I think they are more than willing to make that trade off if they get the many years of great success the Yankees have had. Most teams would do it in a heartbeat if they could afford it.

Quit it... Santana is as inconsistent as any pitcher in MLB... Lincecum is the guy they will be busting a nut to get... Bank on it!

Cano has had a great year..the Yankees aren't letting him go anywhere.

Perhaps...but Ervin has shown a roller coaster tendency

He's stats are, one good year, and one bad year, what would be next year? the good year or the bad year?

Anything could happen, either the angels sign another useless hitter, or the possibility that the punchless halos fold :-) :-)

AJ Burnett and Yankees come to mind. AJ was off and on every other yr and Yankees still threw Ace money at him and soon regretted it.
