10:09 AM ET 08.11 | Indians' starter Danny Salazar's average fastball ... remember, it's his average ... was 97 mph in his second MLB start. In those 7 2/3 innings against the Tigers, four times he lit up the radar gun at least 100 mph. His 100th pitch of the game was 99. In many of his starts this season, Salazar has thrown fewer than 80 pitches. The most he had thrown in a game was 89, his first Indians start. He had been in the high 80s in some other starts at Class AAA Columbus. Because he had major elbow reconstruction surgery on Aug. 10, 2010, the Tribe has been very careful. They also kept his minor-league pitch counts down so he could throw about 100 pitches in his big-league starts.
