Dodgers may now top Cano wish list

07:21 AM ET 08.12 | While a Sunday win helped stem the losing tide, writing on the wall looms larger. A "total mess" is how one major league executive characterized the predicament in the Bronx. The ice age is almost here. Consider the only guaranteed contracts next year: A-Rod, Mark Teixeira, CC Sabathia, Vernon Wells, Alfonso Soriano and Ichiro Suzuki. ... Is it any wonder that rumors of Robinson Cano's departure are gaining traction? The second baseman wisely avoids dropping hints about his impending free agency, but there's been a steady drumbeat that the Dodgers are now the front-runners. Even Cano's friends in the clubhouse, the ones imploring him to stay, concede the Yankees have only a 50-50 chance of keeping him. "I think Robby sees what's coming," said one person familiar with Cano's thinking.

He is a nice part but anyone thinking they are getting " all that " will be disappointed. He can disappear for a month at a time and has more dog in him than Ole Yeller. He is not the best or second best second baseman in the AL.

Three of those six contract names mentioned are up after next year and cheap enough to move or send packing. He is no 9 year $200 million investment. His agent thinks otherwise.

August 12, 2013  08:39 AM ET

The Dodgers have replaced the Red Sox as the team that agents can use to leverage better offers out of the Yankees.

The guy has 1 home run and 2 rbi in his last 85 at bats because he is distracted? Half the pitchers in the NL put up better numbers than that.

Then they will own him.

Will be very interesting to see how the Yankee's restructure. Buying FA talent is less attractive than in George's time; they haven't got much to trade with, and their minor league talent pool isn't deep.
Think ARoid will bring much on the trading block?

Like to see the TIGERS trade wash up JV to the yanks for Cano.

Just curious, whom do you think is better? (assuming Pedroia is one)

Kendrick, Angels. Kipnis , Cleveland has very similar numbers and is four years younger. Cano can make throws from that spot others cannot, but he is not in a league by himself.

I think the Yankees come in around $27 million a year for six years or in the $179 million range. If that is not enough, then everybody will move on.

That seems like more than the Yankees may want to cough up.

This is about respect, not who offers him the most money.

yeah, that's where his new found homie jay z will expose him to the rap lifestyle in LA

And how do teams demonstrate that respect?

Wait for it.....

By offering him a lot of money.

The Dodgers get better.

GREAT.

"...said one person familiar with Cano's thinking." Who are these people?

He'll look good in Dodger Blue.
