07:31 AM ET 08.12 | Depending on whether Gabriel Landeskog keeps his 'C' in Colorado, John Tavares may take on the designation of the NHL's youngest captain. [Tavares] has been the Islanders' best player, their most important player, from the moment he stepped onto the ice wearing No. 91 a little more than four years ago. Both he and his team have taken some big strides since, culminating in last spring's brief but exhilarating playoff run and Tavares being named a finalist for the Hart Trophy. ... Nothing has been announced, but those around the Isles have given every indication that Tavares, who turns 23 on Sept. 20, will be named the 14th captain in Islanders history sometime around the start of training camp. ... "I think he's ready," said goalie Evgeni Nabokov, who became tight with Tavares last season.

C for JT would be well deserved

Agreed.

Also, since thee is no rule preventing the trading of Captains, it would not preclude JT from his destiny (cue the Star Wars music), and moving to the epicentre of hockey, Toronto.

QUOTE(#3):

Still have Nabokov as starting goalie. Still won't succeed. Shame, too, because it looks like the team is ready to become a real contender.

Quite deserved and any other choice would be foolish. Good thing Milbury isn't the coach here anymore
As far as Nabakov, I thought he did pretty well for them last season

As he should!

I still think TOR will trade Reimer before the trade deadline. Would like to see him in a good spot like NYI errr Brooklyn

I can't shake the image of Lord Irk saying to John......

"I am your father."

Why not, he does everything else for that team. "I am mighty Atlas, climb on my back!"

My one question is: Why wasn't JT the captain before now?

Despite the Irked One's greatest efforts, he wasn't able to add JT to his war chest 5 years ago. It would have been a truculent manoeuvre for sure.

My hope is Brian Burke gets a new job before then and trades the farm for Reimer. Old habits die hard, y'know?

Agree 1000%

JT was the captain last year anyway......

As for Nabby, I think if he didn't play so poorly against the Pens, people would have thought he had a pretty successful season. Somehow he was worse than MAF......

Comments like this get me fired up. Danny - I got $20 bucks that says the Isles are ahead of Toronto in the standings next year when the season ends.
