Ryan takes a shot at Cowboys

07:11 AM ET 08.13 | Among worthy bets, it's a virtual lock that Rob Ryan will speak his mind, something he did pointedly on Monday. After [Ryan] was fired by Jerry Jones after the Dallas Cowboys finished last season ranked 25th in overall defense, there was one place the shaggy-haired, edgy defensive coordinator hoped to land. It so happened that New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton, returning from his year-long Bountygate suspension, wanted a respected, ultra-confident teacher like Ryan. ... [Ryan] swears he holds no grudge toward the Cowboys. "There's no bitterness at all because I was fortunate enough to be part of a historic franchise," Ryan said. "And I was fortunate enough to be around some great players." And then Ryan delivered the expected zinger. "My time might have been short, but if you don't think I improved that Cowboys defense, you're (expletive) crazy," Ryan said.

Seriously, the NFL isn't big enough for the twin clowns.

Then according to him there are a lot of (expletive) crazy people around.

I wish someone would take a shot at him.

He improved the D so much they decided to go to a 4-3.

August 13, 2013  07:42 AM ET

He actually did pretty good considering he had some injuries and players not fitting his scheme. Jerry Jones should have fired Opie Taylor instead.

Unfortunately, he thinks like Otis the Drunk.

Maybe he'll thrive under Payton, I agree the Cowboys had injury issues on D - I thought he did a bad job taking that in consideration. The games I watched looked like players didn't know their containments.

August 13, 2013  08:14 AM ET

Rob Ryan........maybe he ought to talk to his brother about a coaching job - that would be a classic "Ryan Express".......major train wreck.

The D was as contained as the Titanic was.

Luckily for Dallas fans the one playoff win Romo was given a $100 million contract. Way to manage the team Jerry.

I don't have a problem teams locking up their franchise QB's regardless of his record especially if he is an above average QB. He did quitely had an impressive year last season so I'm sure there were 5 other teams willing to give Romo similar $$$ if he had become a FA.

nobody can fix that wreck in dallas

Wrong! One move the owner can make but it will NEVER happen.

And you are still waiting for your first title in Houston... 53 years

August 13, 2013  09:31 AM ET

So was the Cowboys defense worse than 25th raned before he came? If so improving them to below average is not much to brag about. Maybe he thinks that's success!

You got to remember there is a lot of young talent on that team and one does not just pick up a new defensive scheme/system/terminology overnight. He worked well with what he had to work with.
