Former junior college defensive tackle Joseph Townsend has been added to North Carolina's 2008 football recruiting class, coach Butch Davis announced Monday. Townsend played in 2006 at Foothill College in California, then was recruited to Nebraska by John Blake, who's now an assistant at North Carolina. Townsend, who's 6-foot-4 and 295 pounds, didn't enroll at Nebraska and sat out 2007. He had been ranked the No. 18 junior college player in the nation by SuperPrep. His brother, Larry Townsend Jr., played defensive tackle for the New Orleans Saints.
