Vols' Jones on a warpath

07:19 AM ET 08.14 | Coming off what he called "probably had the best practice we've had" on Monday, Tennessee head coach Butch Jones had a wake-up call in mind the following morning. [Jones] came into Tuesday's practice on a warpath. He screamed and screamed. He charged after players. He called out individuals from 50, 70, 100 yards away thanks to his handy microphone. He ratcheted up his array of nerve-snapping sound effects through the speaker system. ... The Vols will return to a two-a-day regiment Wednesday. And they can expect more of the same. "There are too many dropped footballs, jumping offsides, lining up offsides and then, quite simply, the fundamentals," Jones said. "Our ability to push through negative situations is what we have to do a much better job of."

Jones uses a mic to yell at players, from 50+ yards away? What, is the dude too lazy to get up and go over and get close to yell at guys? smh

as a player, I would prefer the long distance thing

nothing like getting all that spit in your face from a screaming coach, with the associated slap to the helmet

Your comment gives me flashbacks. We had a coach who not only liked doing exactly what you said, he also liked to take you by the facemask and give it a 90 degree twist. And he had forearms like he was Popeye's son....

When I was in the service it was the first year that the DI's couldn't touch the recruit...so they would get about 1-2 inches from your face and use every "P" word they could....

Make you wish they had just hit you instead...LOL

Check the source of the thread-topping blurb. Presently. The KNS hasn't any up-and-coming sports writers on staff. I'll defer to Volunatic and/or VFH is they care to enlighten me as to any hidden gems of journalism in K-town's rag.
