Will billionaire let Lou do his thing?

07:23 AM ET 08.14 | At one time, none other than George M. Steinbrenner III, somewhat remarkably, left Lou Lamoriello alone to run the Devils. So as billionaire Joshua Harris moves closer to buying the debt-riddled Devils, with a possible deal coming as soon as this week, he should know there are two rules for owning this franchise: 1. Let Lou do his job. 2. If, for any reason, you think Rule No. 1 needs to be broken, stick your head in your office door and slam it shut a few times. The moment will pass. All indications are that Harris, when he takes over in the coming weeks, will let Lamoriello run the team for a 27th straight year. The Devils are unlike most pro sports teams in that the owners are mostly interchangeable, while the general manager is irreplaceable.

But maybe Lou needs to learn that lesson also, vis-a-vis the coaches

First thing Lou needs to do is hire me as assistant GM.

August 14, 2013  09:44 AM ET

The book is still out on Joshua.

August 14, 2013  09:48 AM ET

Hahahaha. Nard--what is it, 4 cups since Lou has been at the helm?

It's his son right now. Wonder how he got the job...must know someone.

Why is everyone surprised that a Leman brothers guy leveraged the debt on this team so much, that???s all they did. Well they will now have a billionaire who will own them, he also will own the Prue Center who needs at basketball team to play there, ohh wait he owns one of those also, hmmm. New Jersey 76???er? Might have less of a following but if he owns the Prue center, his bottom line might look better moving them there, who knows.

The rumor is that who ever buys the team, keeps them there for the lease 25 years, so they arent moving. But what he does with them is all up to him and how tight he keeps his purse strings. I don???t know how he has been with the sixers and their players contracts, but I hope he likes to spend some money, not crazy Rangers Gomez money, but some. I dont think the new owner tell Lou what to do, as he has a track record of winning without paying superstar contracts.

"Will billionaire let Lou do his thing?"

If this guy truly is a billionaire, then he's pretty smart. That means Lou will get to do his thing.
