02:30 PM ET 08.14 | Three-time UFC title contender Chael Sonnen has a match up this weekend against Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in Boston, but he already has his eyes set on a matchup with another Brazilian fighter that he is familiar with. While speaking to the media on Tuesday afternoon, Sonnen stated that he would like a trilogy fight with Anderson Silva, the former middleweight champion. Silva is currently slated to face off against Chris Weidman at the UFC's year-end show in a rematch for the 185-pound belt, but if he is unable to reclaim the belt and Sonnen can get past Shogun, the path could be cleared for Silva vs. Sonnen III.

why, for there to be a trilogy one it has to be even, you've lost both, why would anyone want to see a 3rd fight between the two, when we know how it would end, you tapping out to silva

A trilogy? Nobody wants to see this big mouth scrub lose for a third time. I hope Shogun knocks his head off his neck

There isn't reason for a trilogy when you are 0-2.

He had his chance to be Rocky Balboa in the first fight - he blew it. Second fight wasn't even close.

The only reason this guy still collects a paycheque in the UFC is because of his mouth. He has lost every big fight he has been part of.

He is the SD Jones of the UFC. Good enough to fight top fighters, bad enough never to win.

How'd that work out for you? Sonnen took Shogun to school and made it look easy. Aside from 1 upkick which missed, what real offense did Shogun have? Sonnen is hated by the purists who don't like his antics, but he brings it each fight. He would've easily won the first Silva fight had he just played it safe but he doesn't play it safe. He pushes the action in every fight. The 2nd Silva fight... is still being debated. Illegal knee? Who knows. Personally anything he does makes money so he's doing something right.
