Ellis on Dallas: 'I don't have to do as much'

07:12 AM ET 08.16 | In the case of Monta Ellis, perhaps timing will be everything. Is it a sign that Dallas is where Ellis belonged all along? Or merely a coincidence? Having family close can certainly help bring a measure of comfort and happiness. And happiness is something Ellis says he's been missing the last couple years and, he says, it's shown in his sliding shooting percentages. ... "I don't really have to shoot the ball as much on this team," Ellis said. "The previous team I been on, like I said once before, I had to do 60 percent of the work no matter what the situation is. I think with this team here, I don't have to do as much or take as many shots because sometimes they're going to stop me and Dirk is going to be open, Jose [Calderon], Devin [Harris], the list goes on."

Shoot it or don't, they are still a crappy team. Not much different than last year's one year contract and done team.

these are the types of comments ball hogs make in order to console and absolve themselves.

He'll be fine w/ the Mavs I hope. He is right about not ball hogging too much. He'll have less pressure because of Dirk's offense and Jose managing the team at the point.

Damn... The EMS guys just brought out the paddles for DJ on that double dribble you just committed....

What do you mean you had to shoot? You had curry and lee in golden state

August 16, 2013  09:37 AM ET

What does he mean he doesn't have to do much?
He may not have to dominate the ball now, but he's the undoubtedly second best player on the team.
He still has to average 19-20 per with the assists, steals after all the kid thinks he's Wade....Wade is an all around player he does everything...
Ellis doesn't do enough if you ask me!
He's a average almost below average rebound guy, doesn't block shots, average defender well he does get a few steals and he passes the ball more.
But basically if he ain't scoring 17+ he's not a game changer.

The object is to get back to the playoffs. If he contributes to that, then I have no problem with him.

He can't be as bad as Mayo was...

Cuban says THIS team is better. It's not that great a leap to say that with what they brought in last year, but making the playoffs with little help for Dirk will be very difficult.

Better point guard play won't hurt. PG was a black hole last season.

Better interior defense will help too. Kamen was a liability. Sam is better.

I think Dirk will have plenty of help.

I don't have to shoot the ball as much... but ya know I will

Jose is better. Sam is not that much of an upgrade to Kaman, it is a wash. Neither can stay healthy anyway.
Dirk should ask to be traded, maybe go to the Lakers.
