07:13 AM ET 08.16 | Blake Griffin says he's more excited about this coming season than he's ever been, and Doc Rivers has more than a little to do with that. "One of the things [Rivers] said to me was, 'I don't want you to be afraid to go 0-for-15.' In other words, just have the mindset of a shooter. And with the work I've done this summer, I'm starting to get that confidence and think like a shooter." ... He did noticeably improve his shooting from 10-15 feet, from 27 percent in 2011-12 to 40 percent last season. Griffin thinks he still can make much improvement, however, and that when he proves he can hit a face-up jumper, it will change the way defenses play him. "We've been working on a lot of face-up stuff in the post," he said. "I'm definitely going to be used differently this year."

But hopefully he realizes its not only scoring, that he needs to be a DOG on defense too

He'll be fine on defense. That was basically his strength in college. His jumpers are getting better but he really needs to continue working on his low post moves. They need him more down low than the on the perimeter.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Maybe Big Red can go back in time via his Optima commercials and tell his younger self to work on defense...

Good article, if Blake can improve his outside shot then the Clipps will be pretty good this year!!

LMFAO!!!! His defence is horrendous. With all his flopping and letting guys blow by him. Hopefully Doc Rivers nips that in the bud come training camp.

I give him 40-50 games before he complains about paul being the leader on the floor.

Good to see he is improving though. Got tired of that one trick pony when it got overhyped

A Lot Of Flash But Not Much Substance, Bro.

Isn't it amazing--everybody has new focus in August. What happens once the season starts?

QUOTE(#8):

Griffin needs to expand his game like Karl Malone did coming out of college. Malone made himself a great shooter from 15 feet and that really took his game to the superstar level. Blake also needs to man up and get more physical like Malone.

Malone significantly improved over the early stages of his career, but in addition to becoming more physical, he also became dirty. Blake is more athletic. He just needs to become mentally tougher.

If Doc is ok with 0-15 then the reality of 4-15 shouldn't bother him at all.

Blake got SCHOOLED by Zach Randolph. Anyway that says Griffin can defend, only saw regular season games against Wizards or Hawks or Bucks. In the playoffs, men separate out from boys, and Griffin was somewhere in-between. Zach manhandled him in the post, and Griffin was clueless.
That's why I thought if Clips had gotten KG, things would be so different for Blake. He needs to learn from someone on a daily basis.

T-Rex arms will limit his post game and defense.
