RB controversy looming in Eugene

07:20 AM ET 08.16 | Remember the name of Byron Marshall. A logjam has formed at Oregon to replace departed running back Kenjon Barner, a void in the backfield that coaches admit is too large for multi-talented star De'Anthony Thomas to fill alone. The race is open enough that everyone from true freshman Thomas Tyner -- before he walked out of practice on crutches Tuesday, anyway -- to relatively obscure veterans Ayele Forde and Kenny Bassett are in play to absorb some of Barner's 278 carries from last season. ... This is nothing new for sophomore running back Byron Marshall, the man considered to have the inside track to backing up Thomas. In high school in San Jose, Calif., he played in a Wing-T offense that could feature up to three running backs per play.

It comes as a revelation to me how stellar programs have issues with depth at skill positions like Oregon and Michigan..........lol

I'm not sure a logjam of talent is the same as a controversy.

August 16, 2013  08:33 AM ET

Oh yes. The Oregon unis that a tribute to John Deere!

Have you guys seen LUS lately? It's about time to start talking about a pick-em contest.

Been out of town a lot the last few weeks.....have I missed any plans?

K...hope he's up to the pick-em....

Hard to believe we're FINALLY only 2 weeks away! May be an ugly year locally, but I am just as fired-up about CFB as ever

Best time of the year IMHO.

I'm fired up about the Asylum. Your artistic skills are excellent.

You have nothing to fear; the artful Badger is there. ;-)

Badger or no badger, I fear the following:

9/28 - TAMU
10/5 - at Florida
10/12 - USC Jr
10/19 - at Alabama

Four weeks, for straight top-10 teams. Two at home, and 2 on the road. You think Sparty (or anyone, really) would like to trade places with my poor little piggies?

No thanks, I like our schedule just fine.

First two aren't too bad.

I was going to say regarding the Florida game, "just get a copy of the Sugar Bowl, and copy Louiville's game plan".

August 16, 2013  10:44 AM ET

The Wing-T? What's old is now new, I reckon. Kinda like trends in public education, eh, DC?

BTW, have youall noticed the "Diamond" formation offensive gurus are raving about? Kinda look like an inverted Wishbone to me. Same reads, same options.

Teddy Bridgewater is unavailable for his pink curly-tailed team.

Guess I should be glad we play in a weak little conference and not the mighty Big 2+10-4+2=12.

It could be much worse!
