07:26 AM ET 08.16 | Daniel Alfredsson may have been uncomfortable with the contract circumstances that led him out of town, but the league may have questions, too. The [NHL] doesn't currently have plans to investigate whether the Ottawa Senators purposely circumvented the salary cap with [Alfredsson's] previous contract, but it didn't rule out taking another look in the future "as further events unfold. I would say that if negotiations went down precisely as Daniel described (them), that would be a concern," deputy commissioner Bill Daly wrote in an email to the Citizen Thursday. ... [Alfredsson] revealed he and the Senators structured his last contract under the mutual assumption that he would retire before playing the last year for $1 million.

He also stated they wont do anything about it. Well written.

Well what the hell would they do about it now?I have little sympathy for either side, and Ottawa fans shouldn't either. Beating the deadest of horses at this point. Accept he was a good captain, there were some good times, like reaching the final, and bad times, like getting owned by the Leafs for about a decade in the playoffs (yeah Alfie's old). Move on.

Lou lost a first round pick for cap circumvention. Egg on face here for NHL.

Of course they try to circumvent the cap (annually). That makes them only 1 of thirty teams to do so.

Pack up and go back to Ottawa, Daniel, the league rules you have to go back and play for One Million.

Disappointed in the way Alfie acted, a true leader doesnt leave his captaincy and a city where he's treated like a god for an extra million after making over $55 million in his career, let alone trying to verbally bury the organization that treated him like a god while e was here, if Detroit grabbed this guy for his leadership, good luck, as he has just displayed his true character.
