09:55 AM ET 08.17 | Senseless turnovers tend to turn the stomachs of NFL coaches, so Bears coach Marc Trestman probably felt a little queasy after Thursday night's exhibition game against the Chargers. Trestman curiously accepted a level of culpability for Jay Cutler's poor decision on an interception in the first quarter, saying he would "make sure it doesn't happen again." While Cutler completed 4 of 5 passes for 38 yards and a touchdown, he targeted Brandon Marshall on all five attempts. Cutler tried to force one of them to Marshall, who defenders had bracketed in zone coverage, and linebacker Donald Butler intercepted it. "Sometimes (Cutler) has taken chances that would be more relevant than that was," Trestman said. "That was not a play he needed to take a chance on. "It was zone coverage; it wasn't man-to-man where you could throw it up and get a contested throw. It was a coverage that a lot of people were watching defensively. And I am sure (Cutler) already said he could have made a better decision. I am telling you I am going to do a better job of coaching to make sure it doesn't happen again." Cutler's relationship with Trestman will be monitored closely throughout this season, the final year of Cutler's contract. "He's going to take accountability for (the poor decision) because I know that is who he is," Trestman said. "But I am just saying we have to get better at it.

He's such a little girl, I can't believe Bears fans have ANY confidence in him..............

Marc Marc Marc. Calm down. Jay can hear everything you are saying on the sideline. Remember the NFL field is a lot narrower than that CFL field you drew those plays up for....

5 passes - 4 completions - 1 interception. Yep! Cutler is in mid-season form.

Other than Brandon Marshall, neither do the Bears players.

This doesn't sound like the start of a long & beautiful relationship.

August 17, 2013  10:13 AM ET

I guess they should just go ahead and bench him then.

Trestman said, "I am telling you I am going to do a better job of coaching to make sure it doesn't happen again."

I have good news and bad news for Trestman:
-First, the bad news: Others have already tried that trick.
-Now, the good news: You won't be the first one to fail.

Cutler is Cutler. Can't put lipstick on this pig. Good thing Phil Emery didn't extend his contract. They'll need a real QB sooner than they think. Prima donnas need not apply.

It looks like it's Jay Cutler who's having trouble adjusting to that concept.

When Cutler said "not everyone's bought into Trestman's system" you knew right away he was talking about himself. What a baby.

Will have to wait and see. The point is, Trestman has some adjusting to do too. Cutler is it, there ain't nobody else hanging around who can do better..

Yep. Put a skirt on him.

Trestman has to prove he knows what he doing too. That is TBA. His slate is clean but he has no house money to play with either..

Wow. Let the piling-on begin.

It's the pre-season folks. Relax.
