Report: Celtics never wanted to trade Rajon Rondo

11:22 AM ET 08.17 | The wave of phone calls the Celtics received in early July about Rajon Rondo has passed, and according to league sources, Boston never seriously entertained dealing their flighty point guard. Rumored talks with Detroit were "overblown," a source said, and Rondo does not want out of Boston. Rondo is coming off ACL surgery, which bumps down his value, and the Celtics were not planning on selling low regardless. The plan still is to hand the keys to Rondo and see how he works with new coach Brad Stevens.

take as long as you like Rondo. more chances of us successfully tanking for 2014.

If he didn't have the ACL injury, he would be traded by now. I still see that as a distinct possibility by Feb trade deadline.

Bro, don't say that. The Celtics still sit atop the NBA pedestal and the word tank should never be used in connection such a great franchise.

We will be taking that honor away from you soon but for now, don't let it be said that they would consider doing what irrelevant NBA teams call 'team building'...

I hope Rondo is renting and not buying in Boston. His name is going to be in almost every trade rumor. It won't end until he's traded or the trading deadline passes.

Rondo is at the very lowest of his value.....doc moved on citing rondo's poor attitude, he has the serious injury he is coming off of....

the Celtics shouldve traded Rondo last summer- they could have gotten a huge haul and sped up their rebuilding big time

It's fascinating to see how many people, here and in other forums are absolutely convinced that the Celtics will or should trade Rondo. In spite of all evidence to the contrary or a complete lack of evidence, people go on and on. This is just like the assertion that he's a head case, and still I have yet to see one bit of viable evidence to support it outside of hearsay.

Someone says it... Someone writes it, so it must be true. I mean, it would be different if he barked at other players on the floor or got bum-rushed in a club like some other fan favorites did. Perhaps he "should" take his talents to South Beach given how even "fans" of the Celtics seem to believe he should be gone. Oh wait... Someone did that already.

I just wonder why it's so hard to believe that Rondo might actually want to stay in Boston. Evidently he doesn't seem to be put off by the prospect of rebuilding and seems to have a genuine interest in working with his new coach to make sure the team buys in early. I mean, if the star of the team is on board, everyone else should be as well. I'm told that's what leaders do. On any other team and in regards to just about any other player, these things would be applauded, but somehow, in this case, it just couldn't be true. Could it?

Come To LA, Bro.

Exactly. They should just keep him and build around him.

Yep agreed I can't figure out why any they wouldn't want to build around him, they can still get a good player in this years draft (which they say is loaded) and not to mention wont it be the big free agency year?? Prove yourself as a team prove that you got a leader in rondo, draft wisely and sign a big/decent name or two and you'll be right back in the mix for the best....their the Celtics players will want to play their just because of their history

Great comment. Rondo is not a head case as most posters believe. He has been a great teammate and hasn't complain on anything. Everybody assumes that he is unhappy and that he won't get along w/ anybody. The truth is that he has been a great teammate and everytime he came back from injury he instantly put the team first and into contention.

My sentiments exactly. Instead you're hearing, "They should tank and go after Wiggins"... blah... blah... As if Wiggins could give them something that Jeff Green can't. At the end of the day and by all accounts, Rondo is on board with the Celtics and their plans. People should accept this and *FANS* should be happy about the team holding on to a top tier player who wants to stay in Boston and is still in his prime.

Rondo is the reason I watch the Celtics whenever I can find them on my TV. I hope he retires as a Celtic.
