09:16 AM ET 08.18 | The new lawyer for Alex Rodriguez, opening a fresh defense for a player who sees himself as unfairly targeted by Major League Baseball and his team, said that the Yankees tried to hasten the end of his career by playing him when he was injured and that baseball's commissioner is determined to brand Rodriguez as the "poster boy" for doping. The lawyer, Joseph Tacopina, said the Yankees and the commissioner, Bud Selig, were working together to sideline him from baseball and nullify his contract, under which he is still owed $86 million after this year.

sounds more like a counter-suit, rather than a defense.not sure why all this is all out in public, on either side. Its not like there is going to be a jury- its ONE arbitratorwho are either side trying to gain sympathy for with all these 'leaks'?

True. But MLB decided to go public months ago, so once that door was opened you knew it would swing both ways.

One arbitrator, yes, but the target is Selig.

I hope this clown wins his appeal and gets to play out the rest of his contract in a Yankees uniform. He and the team deserve each other.

It could, they still cheer Pappi in Beantown.

A-Butt sounds more and more like obama both are always blaming others.

I don't think we'll be that lucky, Rex.

You're right on the money, by the way, who at MLB other than Bud Selig has access to all of the records against Arod? Who has a bone to pick with the Yankees, who managed there for a long time and then got dumped, by The Yankees, who's pissed off at Arod for not delivering in the Clutch? Their my Friends is MLB's Rat!

Interesting, I do not think of Joe before. Not so sure though. I think it is more about Bud and his legacy. He wants to be HOF someday, but his past history is not good.

1- tried to buy white sox and move them to Milwaukee. mlb commish said no way. so he buys bankrupt Pilots and moves them to Milwaukee.

2. Stabs Commish vincent in back ( his own words) so vincent resigns and bud becomes head of the families. Bud makes $400 million profit from the brewers transfer of ownership.

3. Steroids hit, he makes big money for owners and himself with new tv contracts as Barry and Mark and Sammy light it up and he plays blind mans bluff.

4. congress and Senate investigations both recommend the best thing for MLB is to have Selig removed, step down as it were, from commissioners position. Bud stays on, what a guy.

5. If only he can make Arod the scapegoat and make it look like he cleaned up the game like in his own words a few weeks ago " baseball has never been cleaner" then HOF here I come.

6. conte tells him last week how players beat his test that no one on the list failed wit troches and topical testosterone creams and what test to use to find them out and Bud goes deaf.

7. this is about Buds legacy as created by Bud and the MLB offices....

It's a threat to harm MLB's reputation in a big way by airing nasty, dirty laundry in public.

Maybe that is the only way to finally make an honest attempt to clean the game up.

I think mlb is doing fine in the whole process.....EXCEPTthat they try and make a mega deal out of anyone caught....which is stupid. Cause it only draws attention. Guys get popped all the time in the NFL and its a no-big-deal

Good point about the NFL. The big mistake from the beginning was not releasing all 103 names once Ortiz, Arod and Sosa had been outed. Now all are suspects. The HOF committee should have shut their doors and stayed shut until that list is shared with them at least.

I disagree that they are doing a pretty good job of cleaning up the game. Once more-this last group did not fail a MLB administered test. The players are so far ahead of the testing that it is nothing more than a dart throw in the dark.
