Felton on those Nets: 'They will never take over the city'

07:07 AM ET 08.19 | Earlier this summer, Paul Pierce said he thought the Nets could take over New York City's collective sporting consciousness. New York Knicks point guard Raymond Felton disagrees -- strongly. "They will never take over the city. Because we've got 'New York' on our chest," Felton said Sunday. "They've got 'Brooklyn' on their chest, and we've got 'New York.' They'll never take over the city. [Pierce] saying that is just him talking." ... Felton says Pierce's headline-grabbing predictions are good for the Knicks-Nets rivalry, but he doesn't believe them to be malicious. "He's just trying to talk, talk, talk, to fuel the rivalry, which is good. I love it," said Felton, who laughed when asked about Pierce's comments. "I think it's good for us, it's good for the whole state, it's good. So, whatever -- I love it."

Ray is right.

Yup.

Even though Ray said it nicely, it still fuels the fire. It's best to say nothing at all and just kick their arse on the court...

The Bricks would have to go on another 10 year run of not making the playoffs. Unless something like this happens, the Nets will always be the "step-children."

Have you seen their line-up, that actually might happen!

The sad thing for the Nets is that even if they beat Knicks next 100 games, Knicks will still be New York's team. If you look for love in the wrong place you don't get it. Knicks is New York City's own...

Never Say Never, Bro.

If they win the title before the Knicks, it could very well be theirs.

The Knicks and Nets are 'fighting' over which is N.Y.'s team? Hahahaha. Let's try winning an NBA championship!

This is true.

The Nets may beat up on the Knicks on the court.....but the Knicks will certainly own most of NY.....with Brooklyn being the only possible exception.

PRECISELY!

The players should focus on winning a championship, not whose team is going to own the city.

August 19, 2013  12:58 PM ET

The Nets can never take over NY, and Ray can never take over a game either.

August 19, 2013  05:26 PM ET

Exactly..I just want the Nets to win some championships. The Knicks can remain the self proclaimed.." Kings of N.Y!" N.B.A championships are more significant than irrelevant titles based on popularity.

August 19, 2013  07:26 PM ET

I was really hoping the Knicks would replace Felton over the off season. As for the Nets, I see them winning less games than last year due to aging players who will be breaking down. The Knicks will do about the same as last year. They may improve a little but so will Indiana and Chicago.

going to be an interesting season for both new york teams.
