07:20 AM ET 08.20 | Corey Marshall may still be a Hokie, but he is taking some time away from the program. Rumors swirled Sunday that the junior defensive lineman had left the program. After he met with head coach Frank Beamer on Monday, Virginia Tech offered some clarification on the matter. "Corey is planning on taking some time away from the team to take care of some personal matters," associate AD for football operations John Ballein wrote in an email. "His status with the team will be determined at a later date." ... That is the only statement the Hokies will have on the matter. The 6-foot-1, 257-pound junior from North Dinwiddie has played 27 games in his Hokies career at both tackle and end, starting five times and making 39 tackles, six tackles for a loss and 4.5 sacks.

I hope he's back in time to play Alabama.

The Hokies are totally blowing up this off-season. I know stuff happens (injuries, grades, etc.) but this is beyond ridiculous now. I've lost track of how many running backs are lost, and the one they were left with to start against Alabama sprained both ankles late last week, may be back or not; one of their linebacker positions is down to two walkons; their D-line and O-line have lost important players; and the safeties are down to third-stringers.

The grand irony is that the rumor was that if the QB went out early for the NFL draft, Beamer was looking to back out of the game (Louisville was seriously interested in taking it). The QB position seems to be the only position that's been stable.

Let me guess ... not a good day for ads views on FN?
