NFL wanted to dock Miller more games

07:09 AM ET 08.21 | A series of bad decisions, as he learned on Tuesday, will cost Broncos linebacker Von Miller six games on the shelf. Per a league source, the NFL wanted to impose a suspension of more than six games on Miller under Section I.C.3.f of the substance-abuse policy, which permits "additional discipline" where a player engages in a "deliberate effort to substitute or adulterate a specimen or to alter a Test result." Others have reported that the first sample collected from Miller was spilled and the second sample was determined to be diluted. The league, we're told, believes that the spillage occurred as part of an effort to alter the result, possibly through the adulteration or substitution of the sample. The NFL agreed to suspend Miller only six games via negotiation with the union.

He should have consulted A-Rod for some advice.

Didn't this failed test take place a year or more ago? Why does it take so long to wrap this stuff up?

Between watching the Seahawks rough the Broncos up and this little adventure, I think the dreams of going to the Super Bowl have taken a pretty serious beating.

August 21, 2013  08:22 AM ET

Last season everyone worried about Peyton's neck keeping the Broncos out of the Super Bowl. Heck, his neck is the least of their worries now.

Manning doesn't seem to have much zip on the ball this year. It seems even worse than last year but even if Denver does get there he will just throw a pick in the last minutes to lose. Just like Favre the last words we will hear of him on a football field is.. Picked off!!

WTF happened? A month ago Miller was one of the NFL's best young players, a guy with a future as bright as the sun. Now he's a burnout hippie who likes observing multiple murders in his free time?

August 21, 2013  12:52 PM ET

You guys are incorrect. Mannings arm is 100x stronger this year than last year. Armadillo its funny that you think a preseason game matters, guess when you dont have a team in your city you dont understand the game. We had two young guys commit big fumbles, did you see our starting offenses stats? Please shut ur mouth, thanks.

Dyguido, I was at the old Mile High watching Floyd Little and Rich Jackson play. Been around for a while and probably will continue to offer comments when the mood strikes me. Doesn't mean I'm right, but I'm going to do it anyway.

The game against the Seahawks was disturbingly similar to last year's disaster in Atlanta and has me worried that the comments that the Broncos are soft may be true. I do agree that Peyton's arm looks better this year, if that makes you feel better.

"Between watching the Seahawks rough the Broncos up". Too funny. A Broncos fumble on the Sea Chicken's one yard line turns into a defensive TD and then a Sea Turkey's kick return for a TD. Otherwise it's Manning 14 - Wilson 13 with the starters. Throw in the injuries and the rest is 2nd team garbage time - in Seattle to boot. You'll probably still see the Broncos in the Super Bowl, but they won't be hosting the 'Chickens - pretty sure of that. Isn't this pre-season, too?

He probably called A rods lawyers. They love to threaten the big sports into court action. Both baseball and football fear getting into court and having some of there special procedures come under scrutiny the a judge could suspend.

August 21, 2013  02:18 PM ET

Derek Wolfe, Wes Welker and Champ Bailey all injured during the game. Welker seems ok, but has a sprained ankle. Wolfe escaped a horrible injury, not sure when he comes back. Champ? Who knows. That's roughed up.

An aggressive defense actively stripping the ball from Bronco starters. That 's getting roughed up. I've had a whole offseason of hearing how the Broncos were one play away from the Super Bowl. I'm getting tired of people dismissing the other team when they outplay the Broncos. If Denver thought that was just a preseason game, they were the only ones thinking that way.

Are you kidding me? Suspensions are more about evening the playing field, not about ensuring that the sport is clean. The league is hypocritical. Kill a man, be convicted of drug dealing or drug use, that's okay. Fail to provide a "valid" sample. Deliver full punishment (if the team is a contender). Such ****!

Wow this comment coming from the ultimate choke/coke team...the Cowboys.
So funny man how is Romeo going to do this year since the clown owner/GM has said to a 9 year vet "he has to study more film and work harder!?
Peyton may not have the same zip but I will take a 1/2 Peyton over 10 Romo's

DarkArmadillo...That is Mr. Richard 'Tombstone' Jackson to you, sir!

I'm sure he's just misunderstood.
