Why 4-6 weeks may be optimistic for Heyward

07:17 AM ET 08.22 | Hit with more than their fair share of injuries this season, the Braves may have suffered their biggest on Wednesday. [Jason Heyward] suffered a fractured jaw Wednesday when he was hit with a 90-mile an hour fastball from New York Mets pitcher Jon Niese. Beanballs have been in the news lately, but Niese's wild pitch clearly was accidentally and he looked almost sick when Heyward was plunked and went down to the ground. The Braves announced later that Heyward's jaw was fractured in two places and he will be out for four to six weeks. That might be the best-case scenario. Here's why: When somebody has a broken jaw, they tend to lose weight and strength. That happened to Heyward earlier this season when he had an appendectomy, and he was slow to get his strength and his hitting stroke back.

FANNATION - SUCKITUDE AT ITS BEST RIGHT NOW...... GET THIS SITE WORKING GUYS - COME ON.....

My 2nd note to fannation

The issues with the site continue - this is at least day 3. I don't know what was done - but you have effectively started to drive away your customer base. If that is what you intended? Fine. It's working. Look at the comment counts. They have plummeted - I am sure your advertisers might see that as a loss of potential proceeds. This has gone on long enough......

Hope it gets fixed - someday.

Accidental? Really? Niese had displayed impeccable control the entire game and he decides to go high and tight (really high considering it was Heyward). Niese is a reflection of his team. He is garbage. I only hope the Braves have someone in the Sal (The Barber) Maglie frame of mind the next time Niese pitches against the Braves.

Tough break for Heyward. He was really starting to swing it well since moving to the leadoff spot.

The Braves will be okay.

Hayward out only 4 to 6 weeks is very optimistic. their is only six weeks left. plus he will probably lose weight. even making it back for first round of post season would be optimistic.

I didn't see the pitch but from what from what press was saying was there was no malice by pitcher. the pitch got a way and sailed up and in. Very unfortunate for Heyward. He was finally having the season the braves have been waiting for.
