Cal eyeing Nats job, but 'ideally' would like O's

07:22 AM ET 08.23 | In Maryland, of course, Cal Ripken Jr. is a legend -- but what about being closer to the Beltway than Baltimore? In an interview with CSN Chicago, Ripken did not rule out working south of Baltimore, specifically as manager of the Washington Nationals. Ripken explained that after he retired in 2001, he wanted to be home to watch his kids grow up. Now that his kids are in their 20s, Ripken might like to be back in to baseball in a managerial role. Whether or not that would be with the Orioles is another question. Asked what it would be like to put on another uniform, Ripken replied it would be strange. "I have no idea, I'm sure it would be kind of strange," Ripken said. ... "Ideally you want to do it with the Orioles but you have to look at who the opportunities are."

Cal looks like he has really bulked up since his playing days.

I'm glad to see that FN swapped out Terrell Owens' picture for Cal. Clap, clap, clap, clap, clap.

If the Angels let sciosia go He would also probably be a candidate for the Washington job

Washington wants Manuel. They have and continue to do everything in their power to emulate them and annoy them to create a rivalry.

As long as Showalter keeps winning Cal will have a long wait for the O's job. With no managerial experience is best bet is to start out at Triple A and work his way into a MLB managers job.

Mattingly never managed in triple A yet he's done from day one as a MLB hitting instructor and now manager.

First he needs to apologize to Brooks Robinson for saying on national tv during last year's playoffs that Adrien Beltre is a better 3rd baseman than Brooks. Yeah, he has a right to his opinion but so do I. And his smelled of "to prove I'm not an Oriole homer, I'll throw Brooks under the bus".

...and his qualifications as a manager are...?

Matt Williams will be the next Nats manager. After Davey, they aren't getting another ex O (Ripken) or another AARP card holder (Manuel).

Just sent SI an e-mail..... contents follow.....

The Fannation Site is virtually non-functional. This is a purported SI web site. The user community has been making a reference to the problems since Monday, and there is NO response from support staff or any other representative. I have tried using the site with IE, Firefox, and Google Chrome from several machines. You cannot quote comments, or go to a follow on page after page 1. This has gone on all week. If you are planning to shutdown the site, then please just put a banner up. If it is no longer run by SI - please approach them to rectify the fact they are representing YOU. It seems a function was attempted to be implemented, and it has effectively brought the site to less than a crawl. The idea of this site was tremendous, and I have established several conversational relationships that I would like to continue. Unfortunately, it looks like I may have to continue them through a different means. Please review and do something. Just something.
