Jay Cutler's last stand in Chicago?

10:59 AM ET 08.24 | When the Chicago Bears traded for Jay Cutler in April 2009, he was supposed to be the savior of the franchise. In his three years in Denver under Mike Shanahan, he threw for over 9,000 yards and 54 touchdowns. When the trade was made, it was thought that Cutler was the missing link to take the Bears to a championship. To date, that hasn't happened. And it may never. Cutler is in the final year of his contract and he is playing for a new coach. If he doesn't show Marc Trestman that he can get it done, the Bears may pass on offering Cutler a new contract and let him become a free agent. A big year could get Cutler a contract that is similar to the deals that Aaron Rodgers and Joe Flacco have received recently. What's at stake is 100 million dollars. That alone can and will put a lot of pressure on Cutler. Does he deserve a similar deal? In my opinion, no. Not for the way he has played so far in Chicago.

$100 million will buy a lot of whine.

Yep. And, since he's playing for a contract ..... expect a lot of it.

A million dollar talent with a ten cent head. A good QB will only be as good as the system he's running, but unfortunately with Cutler, his head will negate any good system he might be playing in. What do they say? You can put a dress on a pig but it's still just a pig

Lipstick, IMH, lipstick on a pig. A dress might confuse some folk into thinking she's just an ugly broad.

The Romo of the NFC North. Just an overpaid back up.

Yeah, he pouts a lot and he doesn't seem like a team-leader kind of guy, but da Bears haven't given him what he needs to succeed, either. Bringing in Mike Martz was a disaster. Cutler is not the kind of QB that you need for a Martz offense. Successful teams base their play-calling around the strengths of the guys they have. You don't win by starting with a formula and trying to change the players to fit it.

And, I can't think of any quarterback that's going to do well behind a crapola offensive line.

I'd say that about sums up the Cutler situation.

Still, you could have emphasized the pouting and bitchiness a tad.

The other QBs on the roster are Matt Blanchard and Josh McCown. The Bears are not going to have a bad enough season to get a top draft pick next April. So, what choice do they have? If they let Cutler walk, they will have no NFL-caliber starting quarterback in 2014.

If you had to play 6 games in the NFC North behind the o-lines the Bears have fielded the last few years, you'd pout and bitch too.

They won 10 games last year. GB better watch out, I am beginning to think the Bears are the better team and will win that division. Honest!

Cutler and the Bears offense looked very good against the Raiders, but honestly, the Raiders look worse than the Jets. But other than that, the Bears have looked average at best. But I agree, the NFC North does not look very tough this year. How about them Lions?

Cutler helped get the Bears to an NFC title game.

Just sayin'...
