10:33 AM ET 08.24 | The tragic shooting death of Australian college baseball player Chris Lane in Oklahoma has hit close to home for the four Aussies who have played in the major leagues this year, but perhaps closest for Rangers pitcher Travis Blackley. Lane, gunned down a week ago in Duncan, Okla., had occasionally been a wintertime workout mate for Blackley and had once sought him out on advice about furthering his career by coming to the United States to play college baseball. Both were natives of Melbourne and played for competing club teams separated only by about 30 miles. Lane, who played at East Central University in Ada, Okla., had been out for a jog just three days after returning from Australia when he was shot once in the back. Lane was 22. Three teens, allegedly acting out of "boredom," have been charged with the murder. "I know what my parents went through when I came overseas," Blackley said. "I can only imagine what they must be feeling. And just three days after he got there. It's a terrible thing and it could have so easily been avoided. I just don't understand what the mindset is."

Beyond comprehension. Those little idiots will be lucky to escape the death penalty.

If they were "bored" before, wait until they get to spend 23 hours a day locked in a 6x8 cell for the next 30 years.
