09:05 AM ET 08.25 | On Sunday night at MTV's Video Music Awards, out gay NBA center Jason Collins will introduce yet another gay anthem at an NBA arena when Macklemore & Ryan Lewis perform their big, earnest summer single "Same Love" at Brooklyn's Barclays Center. Collins disclosed his identity as a gay man on Apr. 29 in an article in Sports Illustrated two weeks after he concluded the season with the Washington Wizards. The 12-year NBA veteran has had a busy summer in Los Angeles working out in preparation for the upcoming season and as an ambassador for the gay community at various public events. Will Collins, who reportedly met with the Detroit Pistons a few weeks ago, receive a contract offer for the 2013-14 season? An informal survey of league executives at Las Vegas Summer League suggests that Collins, who remains a free agent, stands a good chance to be in uniform on opening night this fall as teams flesh out their rosters with 12th, 13th and 14th men in the weeks leading up to training camp. "He's a September player," one front office exec said. "He's a positive locker room influence and still plays big. The league likes him."

Just make this guy an "honorary" player or NBA ambassador or something and get it over with!!! Gets tiring of seeing so many threads for a not-so-significant player.

He was an insignificant NBA player who was close to being forgotten as his retirement drew near. He figured out how to make himself popular finally and extend his 15 minutes of fame.

More like achieve his 15 minutes of fame because prior to this fiasco, he was nothing...

Even "they" know he's a spare.

That actually makes sense because everyone knows that Bogut is bogus. He will most likely miss more games that he plays. People must really be wasted in Warriorland....

Collins is 7 feet, 265 lbs. He has career averages of 3 and 3. He played like a girl anyway....next.

If no team signs him. Then the gay community will say it's because he came out of the closet and he's being black listed

No there reason why no team has signed Collins is because he's nearing the end of his playing career. And all Jason can bring to the game is 6 fouls and grab a few rebounds if he gets off the bench.

Was Jason coming out of the closet a Jackie Robinson moment? Yes. But unlike Collins, Jackie Robinson was about to enter the peak of his career. And he become on of the best baseball players of all time. Collins is past his prime trying to get a job. And he's never won an NBA awards or helped his team win the championship.

There's no comparison at all between Collins and Jackie Robinson. Collins is worthless.

There were some people in the media that saying that this was a Jackie Robinson moment.

Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in sports.

Jason Collins broke the gay barrier in pro sports by being the first gay male athlete in the four major sports.

But at the end of the day. Robinson was one of the best baseball players of all time. Collins is going to be forgotten in two years time. If not sooner.

Since he is in the demanding business maybe Dwight ought to insist that Houston pick him up?
