09:55 AM ET 08.25 | Amid growing speculation that Angels General Manager Jerry Dipoto or Manager Mike Scioscia -- or both -- could be fired at the end of another highly disappointing season, Scioscia on Saturday downplayed reports that philosophical differences between him and Dipoto have made their relationship untenable. "There's no philosophical differences," Scioscia told reporters before Saturday night's game in Seattle, where the Angels defeated the Mariners, 5-1. "Jerry and I are certainly, as far as our baseball philosophies, in line." A rift between the two seemed to develop in May 2012, when Dipoto fired Mickey Hatcher, Scioscia's longtime hitting coach, without the manager's approval.

Well...if I was Scioscia and my GM spent millions on oft-injured over-the-hill hitters who can't hit while letting all of my decent pitchers walk, I'd have some philosophical differences as well.

The owner is the one with the philosophical differences. Scioscia can only manage the players that moron signs.

Fortunately for Scioscia, he is signed through 2018. Dipoto is only signed through 2014.

I wouldn't stand too close to either one, the way this season is going and future outlook. You might get hit with a stray bullet or two when they get hit.
