10:19 AM ET 08.25 | In the early stages of NHL free agency this July, the Capitals reached out to Mikhail Grabovski and his agent to see what the center was looking for in his next contract. Not much developed, though, according to General Manager George McPhee. At that point, McPhee said he was comfortable naming Brooks Laich as second-line center heading into this season. But as the summer pressed on, the possibility of signing Grabovski for an agreeable term and salary became a reality. "On July 8 [Laich] was our No. 2 center but things change over the course of the summer," McPhee said Friday, adding that things came together on a deal within the past three weeks. "It looked like there was an opportunity with Grabovski and really having Brooks, knowing that he could play that position, allowed us to do this deal. We could take our time and get the right deal."

Nice spin. What it should have said is "They wouldn't pay it and he wasn't worth it".

Only Burkie would think he's 5.5 per over 5 years. I mean that's...that's...Kadri money. lol

Even when the story is about another team, it's about the Leafs!

QUOTE(#4):

I saw him on SportsCentre yesterday. I've been shaking since.

Some ass clowns at Rugby Canada thought it would be a good idea to put him on the Board of Directors. Just as soon as they're back from kicking Yankee butt to qualify for the 2015 WC I'm going to go down there and ask them WTF.

I'm glad the Caps have Patience, because they'll need it as a 20 goal scorer means he scores a goal once every four games.

What exactly would you like? The only things going on right now are contract negotiations, and the only ones that really matter are the ones with Kadri and Pietrangelo. We all had to sit around and see story after story about Subban last year...

Danny, I don't want any more Subban threads either but a bit of a mix of hockey news would be nice. These are some of the headlines from other hockey news sites.

Kane brings Stanley Cup to Buffalo
Who's a lock for loaded Canada roster?
Canada???s road to Sochi begins Sunday
Brodeur: Excited to work with Schneider
Best of the rest: NHL's top 10 FAs available

Just spread it around a bit. I'm not ragging on the Leafs (well, ok yeah, a little bit), just want to hear some other news. A Burkie thread is good as always.

Peace!

"Burke, who played hockey at Providence College and in the AHL, said he played rugby for five years, starting in law school in Harvard and then in a men's league in New England. He said rugby is tougher than hockey."

Check out Burkie lying about the 40 second mark.

You don't take up rugby in law school and play in a top league unless New England has really crappy rugby.

Nice! Haaa! Real nice, but I did like Burke. I don't like Nonis until they win a bunch of stuff and go on a 23 year playoff run!

I've been patient fpr 40 years. Will it pay off for me? I doubt it.
