Giguere on five-hole goals: 'You asked for it'

07:24 AM ET 08.26 | As are the days this time of year, and with training camps looming, goalie pads are getting shorter. The NHL, with the approval of the National Hockey League Players' Association, has changed the rules governing the length of a goaltender's leg pads for the 2013-14 season, making them a bit shorter so they don't block as much of the five hole between a goalie's legs. ... [Jean-Sebastien Giguere], for one, said he hopes bosses around the League will understand what the goalies will be going through. "Coaches and GMs, you guys want that, you've been asking for more goals [through the] five hole," Giguere said. "So if your goalie gives up a goal five hole, you need to take a breath and remember that you asked for it. It's not our fault."

He's been more "Gaggy" than "Jiggy" for years now.

Yep - now he has an excuse.

The above picture shows him in his lacrosse-light equipment...in Anaheim his chest protector went up past his ears.

Says the Michelin Man...if there was a goalie out there that owed his career to the equipment its him.

Exactly. Here is a radical idea Jiggy- make a fricken SAVE as opposed to a block once in a while.

Well back to the 6foot 9inch goaltenders again:)

Exactly... you think any of these guys are better than the Drydens, Espositos or Cheevers? Never.

Make the equipment smaller and give the shooters more of a chance. I loved the 6-4 games nightly in the 80's. If all goalies are letting in same goals because of smaller pads, glove etc... noone stands out, right?

Wellll, I guess if Garth Snow *had* a career as successful as Jiggy's that'd be true. But those billboards on Snow's shoulders were the epitome of the letter of the law. Note to goalies: Just get fat.

If owners want more goals, make the rinks bigger. Olympic hockey is so much better than NHL largely in part due to the amount of space the players have to work with. Owners won't cut into the high-priced rink-side seating, but that larger ice will make hockey much better.

Jiggy is a whine connoisseur.

Let's just say they're different games - I say, go back to wooden sticks, and make soft pads mandatory - the game would be a lot safer, and probably a little quicker.

August 26, 2013  03:38 PM ET

And 86 the icing races altogether - that's the real thing they 'do right' internationally.

Just wear a bigger cup.
