The Decision rests with Ryan, after all

07:12 AM ET 08.27 | The call, apparently, isn't GM John Idzik's to make. Rex Ryan will make one final impactful decision for the Jets as his professional world slowly crumbles around him. Less than a month after [Idzik] publicly undercut his head coach's autonomy in the quarterback competition evaluation process, the Daily News has learned that Ryan -- not Idzik -- will have final say on whether Mark Sanchez or Geno Smith will start against the Buccaneers. ... Ryan has been systematically stripped of his power amid the organization's changing landscape, but Idzik isn't making any demands right now about whether Sanchez or Smith should be the starting quarterback. "I'm sure John will have his say," a team source told The News. "But at the end of the day, Rex will consult his coaches and make the decision."

Really..WHO CARES? After the season he and his wife can do pedicures on the boardwalk, or whatever and that can be his future full time job.

August 27, 2013  07:49 AM ET

Right... Because it's Rex's job on the line.

They won't dump him during the season. The season is already in the toilet and and he has a year left. Nobody they get at this point would be able to do anything this late into it this season so they may as well let him coach out the season and dump his useless butt after the season is over.

The decision about firing Rex has already been made. Idzik will distance himself from RR so he doesn't have to accept any blame for the failed season. Ryan won't make day three after this season.

The bigger problem here is for the players. Rex will coach recklessly (see 4th quarter last week) and he's going to get some players injured by doing that. I know I wouldn't want my career in this guys hands.

Thanksgiving Day. While he and his family are sitting down to a turkey dinner. That's when Idzik will make the call.

Look at it this way, Rex. It's better than ending Thanksgiving Day with a Buttfumble.

Idzik will distance himself from the decisions so he can dump all the blame on Ryan and whack him at the appropriate time. That time; TBA...

So you think Rex gets whacked mid season? Interesting.........

August 27, 2013  09:07 AM ET

This is known as, "Let him dangle slowly in the wind".
By the time the season is over RR will be happy to go--it's likely to be brutal!

August 27, 2013  09:17 AM ET

I too think Sexy Rxy does not make it to the end of the season.

August 27, 2013  09:25 AM ET

Looking at their schedule... anything more than 3-6 going into the bye week might actually be quite an achievement.

Thanksgiving is Week 13, so it's more than 2/3 of the way through. But, I figure that's about the point where they will be mathematically elimiated from the playoffs. That's the real trigger I'm looking for.

Because we're going to expect quality decision-making from Rex now?

I agree, that is if he has any brains, cause either way they both suck.

This tool as an NFL head coach is absolutely shocking!

I keep picturing Ryan's final post-game press conference where he has three footballs the size of ball bearings in his right hand while speaking incoherently about buttfumbles, interceptions, quarterback injuries and Super bowl guarantees.

November 4th - the first day of their bye week

Why is he still a Head Coach?

His early success bought him some time. But that is over after this year.

If they don't win by the 3rd game I will think so too.
