Jairus Byrd wants out of Buffalo

07:13 AM ET 08.27 | Where the Bills and Pro Bowl safety Jairus Byrd go from here remains to be seen, but the couple could use some counseling. He finally broke his silence Monday, and did not sound like a happy man. "Am I happy? Sure, I mean ... any time I'm playing football, I'm happy," he said. His body language and tone, however, suggested anything but. On 11 separate occasions during his 10-minute interview, Byrd made a reference to the "business side" of the sport. ... Byrd was asked whether he has asked the Bills for a trade. He did not say that he has -- but also did not deny it, either. "I'm going to leave the private matters of the business side between us," he said. "I don't really want to comment on other things. I'll let coach Marrone talk more about the team aspect and what they're doing upstairs."

I can't blame the guy.

August 27, 2013  08:04 AM ET

Come to Dallas Bro.

August 27, 2013  08:11 AM ET

I don't think I'm going out on too far of a limb when I say I would bet most players, if they're honest, would say they want out of Buffalo.

Buffalo needs a quarterback, and now they have a good player who wants to be traded. It seems to me the GM could make something of this.

Now, who has an extra starting quarterback?

Jairus is a joker -- he's a Byrd,
A very funny joker -- he's a Byrd,
He's playing for some clowns now -- he's a dog,
So trade him to the Browns now -- what a dog,
Jairus is a joker who could sure be taught a lesson -- he's a Byrd Dog.

I will never understand how a guy can get the franchise tag and be upset. He is being paid like he is the third best safety in the NFL. He wants to be the highest paid. Well don't we all.

August 27, 2013  08:47 AM ET

So if they tag him again next year that means $15 million guaranteed over two years. Tell him to look at just how much guaranteed money any safety gets in the NFL. A safety is NOT a CB just as a slot receiver is NOT paid the same as a WR. Jeesh!

BUT..it's still Buffalo.

They haven't had a competitive team since Jim Kelly retired.
They play in an old outdoor stadium next to Canada, the metro area is losing jobs and population, and there is little national media attention or opportunities for endorsement income.
What's not to like?
Time to relocate the franchise to LA?

He can a BMOC ( and be a leader on D) in Buffalo or be shipped off to any other team and be just another pretty face. Wait, maybe the Texans can use a safety now that the Reed Experiment looks like a bust (insert Airplane! joke here).
