Giants stars claimed, but going nowhere (for now)

07:24 AM ET 08.27 | 'Tis the season -- for waiver claims. Giants stars Tim Lincecum, Hunter Pence and Javier Lopez all went on waivers Saturday, and all were quickly claimed by teams. However, "none of them are going anywhere," according to someone familiar with the situation. While the Giants technically could still trade any of the players, it appears that either the claiming teams were doing so in order to block trades, the Giants had little or no real interest in trading any of the three players, or both. The Giants could save close to $8 million by trading or letting go the three free agents to be, but there's reason to believe the team was never that anxious to trade three of the players who helped them win World Series titles (Lincecum and Lopez were part of two titles, Pence one).

Interesting ... "all went on waivers Saturday, and all were quickly claimed by teams" but ... "none of them are going anywhere," and "it appears that either the claiming teams were doing so in order to block trades" ...

so the Giants weren't going to trade them anyway and teams making the "claims" were blocking other teams from making trades (begging the question of blocking who from these non-trades) ... really a weird scenario ... what was the point of the Giants placing them on waivers then (knowing $8 mil is just chump change to the Giants)? Somebody please explain ...

also ... thanks for nothing FN ... no box scores in the ribbon above ...

Clem chopped it up, Moose stomped on it ... Lou taped it back together, Slink soaked it in vermouth, Bad Kitty played with it, Atro's gravitational pull sent it into outerspace, CSF invested in it, PK shot it, Mondo smoked it and you sold it to the Mets for a cup of jo and some used baseballs ...

It's big news to Giant fans because all three of those guys are beloved in San Francisco. Just hearing their names in any trade talk is concerning.

The Giants ownership have sold their fans on a "family" atmosphere where you really feel like you know these ball players. The organization has gone out of it's way to bring in "good character" guys as well. Heck, I've drank with some of them in the Marina and they're cool guys.

The San Francisco Giants are one year removed from beating everyone. It's news to hear the team may get torn apart.
