07:27 AM ET 08.27 | Oklahoma's new starting quarterback has been impressing his head coach since the middle of last season, but that doesn't mean the end of the line for his chief competitor. Sooners coach Bob Stoops said the Belldozer package would live on, even with Trevor Knight being named the starter at quarterback over Blake Bell. "A year ago, we were No. 1, I believe, in our league in third-down conversions and No. 1 in red-zone conversions. I think we might have been fourth in the country in third-down conversions," Stoops said. "That's a bit part of it, being able to pick up, you know, those, as well as convert in the red zone and those opportunities. "We'll feel comfortable even expanding on that and giving him some more opportunities other ways in that package."

I think Bell was rated as the #6 pro-style QB by one of the recruiting services coming out of high school. Interesting to see how he's been utilized at OU.

Russell Shepard was the #1 QB by at least one of the recruiting services.

This guy should be royally pissed that he lost the starting job to an unproven freshman.

I'd settle for 2 or 3 good 4.5 guys with good hands at WR about now....

Perhaps. Or maybe the freshman will do bigger and better things and get OU back on track.
