Richards-Tortorella relationship forever fractured?

07:35 AM ET 08.27 | On the surface, reuniting Brad Richards and John Tortorella seemed ideal. But the relationship between the two men became strained last season. Tortorella made it known he believed that Richards should have played in Europe during last year's three-month lockout. The coach then reduced the alternate captain's ice time as he struggled through the worst season of his career, one that ended with him in street clothes and facing the prospect of an amnesty buyout. Instead -- though it was not an either/or -- Tortorella was dismissed and Richards was invited back for a third season on Broadway. The two men have not spoken since the firing that took place three days following the club's elimination. "I reached out," Richards said. "But there's been no talking."

not your best....but I understand

I think Richie returns to old form this year, at least I hope. The whole situation last year was ugly--from lockout to Richie sitting in street clothes as it all ended.

Brad said he "reached out" to Torts. I wonder how many fingers he had out when he reached out to him.

More E-F but it was funny.

Richards has to have a 'sit-down' with Torts, maybe a nice restaurant, don't forget to hide the gun in the toilet.

Richards deserved what Torts gave him. He was brutal last season, stunk, slow and physically a non-factor. Richards got the same treatment any player has under Tortorella. Stop the whining.

He didn't seem to care a couple of days ago when he told a New York paper the team and he would be better off with the coaching change. Hypocrite.

Gotta agree JC - neither of these guys has done did-squat since the cup hoisting - just a case of swollen heads bringing a dynasty down, then taking it on the road. At least Brad was brilliant once though, re-Torts was just a mouth-piece in the right place at the right time once in his life, just like the BB.

He was out of shape due to his attendance at the bargaining table....still not an excuse, but eh you get this jist.

Granted Richie has had a season like the one in Tampa (which I believe was his best) which brought home the Chalice. But this is NYC, prior to his arrival and Steppans emergence, they havent had a good play making center on Broadway in some time. Sure Sather over paid (not Scott Gomez overpaid), but Richards has been pretty consistent most of the way even in Dallas. Torts found his whipping boy and that was it for 2013.

Let me see......go play in Europe be a traitor and take some guys job (I believe you railed against this type of NHL'er, Joe C) or stay in NYC, bang models, drink wine, show up at some press conference every now and then, and skate at some charity Hurricane Sandy event???

Granted Richie hasn't

What does it matter anyway? The twine shall never meet again unless ..... Richards is traded to the Vancouver Canucks ... or .... to whatever team Tortorella is going to be coaching next year. ;-)
