02:31 PM ET 08.28 | The Tampa Bay Rays have released right handed pitcher Cory Wade today as tweeted by Triple-A Durham Bulls' official Twitter account. The 30-year-old, right-handed pitcher was granted his release from Triple-A Durham at his own request. He signed a Minor League deal with Tampa Bay back in May after he struggled with the Chicago Cubs Triple-A affiliate. Wade saw somewhat of a turnaround with the Tampa Bay Rays as his ERA stuck around 2.17 with a 33/14 K/BB ratio over 49 2/3 innings at the Triple-A level for the organization. He apparently wasn't in the Rays' future plans. He spent some time with the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He's pitched two full seasons with a 3.00 ERA with the Dodgers back in 2008 and 2011 with the Yankees. Wade holds a career 3.65 ERA with a 39 percent ground-ball rate in 177 2/3 innings.

He probably asked for his release knowing he wasn't going to be called up in September.
