For the first time since entering the NFL as an assistant coach in 1986, Dom Capers is preparing to sit out a season. Capers, the former head coach of Carolina and Houston who spent the last two seasons as defensive coordinator/assistant head coach in Miami, has declined an offer to become either defensive coordinator or a defensive consultant for the Cowboys.

No loss, maybe he can get a job as a double for Pierce Brosnan!

February 12, 2008  07:31 AM ET

why wouldnt he want the job ?

Jerry Jones

Ok, no Dom Capers. I've over it already.

Well, you can't win them all - just ask the Patriots if you don't believe me.

Good move, there will probably be some great openings next year in the NFL and at a couple of major colleges. You are getting paid either way. chill out, enjoy the family and get back the desire for the game. Being in Miami this year had to be demoralizing.

Looks like Jerry Jones isn't popular with some coaches out there. Gotta love it when somebody tells him "No."

Anyone heard whether or not Williams has considered the offer?

I guess Capers is willing to sit out and see what offers he gets in the offseason or from ESPN.

Williams went to the Jags. Capers is going to get paid from MIA so he'll probably just sit out this year..

It's Okay dallas has enough coaches with loosing records on staff already. How about looking for some fresh talent to help out Garrett. Where's Mike Singletary these days.

February 12, 2008  02:01 PM ET

Looked it up. Mike's is still stuck in the land of fruits nuts and loosers.

If I was Capers I would seriously think of getting into a different profession. Maybe a sports analsyt is better siuted for his talents. I'm talking golf not football !!!

Capers refused for one reason. After the 2008 season he can actually be the first guy in the world to get fired by both Texas teams. Besides, what does he has to offer to the BOYS? how many playoff wins did he get in Houston?

I rather work for Jerry Jones than to be a Houston Texan. Whatever happened to the Oilers? that`s right, ... they moved.

WHY WOULD YOU TURN DOWN A JOB WITH THE COWBOYS? I MEAN I'LL BE THE WATER BOY IF THEY LET ME.
