07:12 AM ET 08.29 | At this point, the timing of the matter could best be considered as awkward. Jay Ratliff hinted that he has issues with the Dallas Cowboys' strength and conditioning staff on Wednesday, one day after the defensive tackle was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list with hamstring and groin injuries. Ratliff underwent surgery for a sports hernia in December, ending an injury-plagued 2012 season that saw him play in just six games. Ratliff didn't attend every rehab session at Valley Ranch, ultimately preventing him from starting the season on time. Ratliff will remain on the PUP list and miss the first six weeks of the regular season. Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones called Ratliff missing the start of the season "a setback."

He won't see the field this year. He should just shut up!!

Stealin' money...

Eff him!

Any injury means your job is less secure. Let the finger-pointing commence, always.

August 29, 2013  08:13 AM ET

The strength and conditioning staff want Ratliff to work harder, he doesn't want to = issues.

August 29, 2013  08:28 AM ET

Cowboys played him at nose tackle for too many years ... and he is undersized for that position. He could have been more productive at DE if Cowboys were smart enough to draft a bigger body to play in the middle. Now his body can't take it anymore. Way to go Cowboys now you'll have to replace a nose tackle AND the best DE prospect you've had in 10 years.

August 29, 2013  08:31 AM ET

Strength and Cinditioning is the least of the Cowboys worries. Rather an owner who thinks he is qualified to be a GM and an overpaid back up on any other team who thinks he's a starter for Dallas.

August 29, 2013  08:31 AM ET

He's been in the trenches 9 years, getting worn down. Might be time for a fresh body in the middle anyway.

August 29, 2013  08:40 AM ET

Hey, everybody, it's Jay Ratliff's 32nd birthday! I just checked!

8 more years and Jerry can add another 40-year-old brain to his collection.

August 29, 2013  08:42 AM ET

He looks like a guy who has had enough. He turns 32 today, has received the $18 million of his guaranteed money from that big contract they gave him in 2011 and has lost the desire, the edge if you would, it takes to play in the NFL.

He knows he is a cap cut next year. was good in his day but nine years of getting double teamed up the middle has worn him down. A young mans game.

8 and 9 beat me to it....

They should have cut their losses this past off-season... salary cap be damned.

I like seeing the Cowboys swim in a sea of mediocrity.
