Team Canada's best player

07:16 AM ET 08.29 | Not since Steve Nash's international playing days have hopes risen so high for Team Canada on the world stage. Headlined by young NBA talent such as Cleveland Cavaliers forward Tristan Thompson and San Antonio Spurs point guard Cory Joseph, which will be blended with the veteran savvy of names like Jermaine Anderson and Jevohn Shepherd, Canada's roster is an interesting mix between the program's much-anticipated future and holdovers from some of its darkest days. ... Thompson is likely the best player on the roster and, more intriguingly, is developing into the de facto leader of this team. Drafted fourth overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2011 NBA Draft, the Brampton native is one of the NBA's most-promising young big men.

I hope he can show some improvements for the Cavs as well; Plenty of potential, not a whole lot of results thus far.

Tristen Thompson? The guy who's had more shots blocked than anyone else in the NBA?

What about Bennet the #1 pick and Wiggins? Thompson must have paid the writer to say great things about him...

Thompson is could in the corners.

I mean any professional who has decided to change his hand he shoots from?

how good can he really be?

Hard to say. But his stats as a 21 years are comparable to Karl Malone's stats.....when the mailman was 22 years old.

Bottom line is this kid has a way to go......but he is still a kid who has time to develop. The next couple of years will tell us whether he's gonna be a Drew Gooden type of journeyman......or something better.

he is extremely young, a great athlete, an extremely hard worker and he put up some damn impressive numbers last year

He will become the G.O.A.T of blocked shots. Everyone will give him the Mutumbo 'wag'

What's your definition of "damn impressive"? 11ppg. and 9rpg is okay but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. You're hyping this guy a little too much.

bigs take a while to develo--- staring Januay of his 2nd year he was at about 13 and 10 for the rest of the year and doing it in his year 21 season which is extremely impressive

and like i said- his work ethic is out of this world and he is taking on a leadership role at an especially young age

he will be a guy that makes 1-2 all star games in his career and is a very good player for al ong time in my opinion

we shall see

He's only Canada's best player because:
-Wiggins is focusing on getting ready for his freshman year at KU, but was at workouts and games. Will be part of the program moving forward.
-Bennett is coming off surgery and not yet ready to play
-Olynyk has plantar fasciitis (sp?) and needs to recoop before training camp

Overall he's the best PF but only the 4th-5th best player moving forward, and that's only for a year or two until more talent comes up the ranks

his #s went up cause AV went downagain- IMO - you don't draft bennett and bring in clark if you are happy with his progress as both play his position.he is basically taj gibson- a nice little player, but just a role guy and a guy you don't want to have to pay good $ for. What are yo going to do when all your young guys come up for contracts?

oh without a doubt some of it was Andy going down i totally agree--

but this guy is extremely young and very talented- he does a decent job at the free throw line which most bigs his age are just awful at- he has some nice moves around the basket and in todays NBA he can play a lot of "big" as there really is hardly a center position anymore

they drafted Bennett simply because they thought he was the best fit for them in the draft- and Clark is going to be playing mostly SF and guarding the bigger wing players in the EAst like the LeBrons and Melos and Georges etc.

all in all- most bigs take at least 3-4 years to develop- in his 2nd season about a month or two in the light really went on for Thompson and he played extremely well- he is the hardest worker on the team and one of the hardest working athletes that I have seen play and he has only been at it for 2 short years- he has leadership qualities and a great attitude. I love the pick and think he will be in Cleveland for a long long time and will be the successor to Andy as the great defense/great rebounding/limited but very efficient offense big and make an all star game or two during his career

time will tell
