01:24 PM ET 08.30 | The New York Jets quarterback competition was one of the most entertaining parts of the NFL preseason and head coach Rex Ryan's baffling decision to get his starting quarterback Mark Sanchez hurt by playing him behind a line of backups brought things to an unimaginable end. Because of the injury, Sanchez will most likely be unavailable for the team's season-opener. Now, despite his obvious struggles to grasp the speed of the NFL, rookie Geno Smith will likely get the start in the first week of the season.

What makes you think he'd be ready for week one or week sixteen?

He stinks, and has regressed to the point where the CFL would eschew taking him.

As Governor Rick Perry from Texas once said, "Adios, M0fo"

The final implosion will be fun to watch.

Matt Simms was better than Sanchez or Smith, why not start him in Week 1. Couldn't hurt.

Just as well.

He could 100% healthy and STILL he won't be ready for week one.

Exactly. But that would be admitting you made the same mistake twice on draft picks.

Isn't that pretty obvious at this point?

The CFL has some good QB's and many who have moved on and become stars in the NFL. A wide open game with lots of passing. Watch it sometime.

New GM would never go for that. It would mean his first big draft pick was a mistake....New GM will fire Rex at years end and buy some time. And it will work because the owner is the owner only because he is heir to the throne. No other earthly reason.

What do you expect from the Jets? They have far bigger problems than their QB in that nut house.

Mark, don't be an idiot. Your shoulder hurts really bad. Make sure it hurts until like game 4. By then they will be begging you to play. Geno will have shown he ain't the man and it will be your team to butt fumble for. Stay hurt young man.

Let's see... Jets thread, Tebow thread, Jets thread. Yep, this must be T&R.

They could have ended the Headline after the word "ready".

August 31, 2013  01:05 PM ET

I agree. But it makes too much sense, so it will never happen.

The truth of what you say makes every Jets fan want to shoot themselves in the head.

Replace Ryan, replace GM, replace owner, replace QB's, replace O/line, replace D/line, replace waterboy.

FIXED!

LOL, they should do a reverse bounty, pay the oline to let defender through. That will solve the QB issue. Then one by one make the members of the oline play QB, now the oline is fixed. The dline will fix itself since they will be on the field 90% of the time.

Sanchez was toasted when Cheat Carrol said he'd be a bust for leaving school early. This is history, not news.
