08:30 AM ET 08.31 | Suspended outfielder Nelson Cruz on Friday began preparations for re-joining the Rangers in the post-season. Cruz went through a full workout, including an extensive batting-practice session with hitting coach Dave Magadan. Cruz will continue the workouts through the weekend and report late next week at the club's facility in Surprise, Ariz. At his own expense, Cruz will participate with the instructional-league team, which has a reporting date of Sept. 13. The Rangers consider having some higher-level pitchers go to instructional league, which begins play on Sept. 18, solely to throw to Cruz. On Aug. 5, Cruz accepted a 50-game suspension from Major League Baseball for the use of performance-enhancing drugs. He is eligible for post-season play. "Hopefully, the team goes to the playoffs and gives me a chance to help them out," said Cruz, making his first public statement since the suspension. "I'll be ready." General manager Jon Daniels said the club will do all it can to keep Cruz game-ready but will not make a premature decision on his status. Manager Ron Washington sounded more assured of having Cruz on a post-season roster.

The Rangers seem to be doing quite well without him. It's not like they miss his fielding.

Follow the Giants lead and leave this cheater off your Playoff roster.

" I made a mistake."....Cruz

"It was a huge mistake...." Braun

" my poor academic judgment..." Notre Dame QB Golson

"The only reason I took steroids was for health purposes."....Mark McGwire

Vick apologized, only after being found guilty, to Goodell, Blank, his former coach and his teammates for not being "HONEST"with them

And on and on and always " sorry about breaking the TRUST his fans have in him...." Honestly, the only thing any of them and the hundreds are sorry for is that they got caught. Never heard a guy admit to "cheating" who was never caught during his time.

No one buys any of it. We may be a forgiving lot at times, if it is "our" guy on "our" team, but not totally stupid....

No more public apologies-Pu-lease!

Not gonna happen....and not giving back any games won the other 100 games he played. Nobody ever does..

Here is the real question in all of this: If/when Arod is suspended for 50 or 100 games or a season is Bud Selig going to also allow him to work out at the Stadium and be with his team mates until the " gates open" and go to the Instructional Arizona League and play during his suspension time? If not, then the players union and Arod need to file another grievance....

Indeed... I do prefer Arod's narcissistic approach.

I do. No crocodile tears there. They are worse in my world. And Canseco is the only one who ever told the truth and MLB made him out to be some pariah.

Didn't Pettitte tell the complete truth? He only used once, to like get back from injury and stuff.

Must be. Never heard one say it wasn't but once. What were the odds? Jeesh! Make a mistake ONCE and I get caught....

Just man up boys, tell em yeah, I cheated cause it got me some big money and you can't change that now, so bugger off.

That would be refreshing.

Exactly. Something like: "I'm sorry I got caught, but it's just so damn competitive out there. And I had no intention of being left behind, so yeah, wanker off".

Doesn't matter what Selig would allow, the Yankees wouldn't allow it.

Nelson Cruz being off 50 games just before post season there would have to be some doubt if he would be ready to play. players who spends 20 to 30 days on DL is usually sent out for about a week of rehab. Cruz wanting right in to post season roster is questionable., if not selfish. there was a player filling in for Cruz and would not be right to expect him to give up his spot for Cruz.

September 1, 2013  12:03 AM ET

Texas should not Cruz on post season roster. He left the team down and did ok without him. doubtful if he will be ready offensively. Sounds like Washington wants him on post season roster. Wonder how Nolan Ryan feels about Cruz on post season roster.

September 1, 2013  12:23 AM ET

Cruz ,at end of season will have served 49 games which would mean he would be ineligible for opening day next year. If Rangers do put Cruz on post season roster it would be fitting if he hit about .150 striking out 2 to 3 times a game. That would help the team a bunch. Cruz is thinking about Cruz. Plain and simple. Working out at an instructional league Is not the same as facing the top three pitchers on teams Texas will play.

Selig and MLB was afraid they would have to pull their heads out of sand and realize there is a problem. If memory serves me right Conseco brought this out about the time McGwire and Sosa were in middle of homerun chase. and Bonds were passing Maris' single season mark and Aaron's career HR mark. If people and MLB paid attention to Conseco it would mar all the excitement and revenue that was coming in. MLB and Selig sort of downplayed Conseco's information all short of ridiculing Conseco's claims

Bartolo Colon: I only used PEDs once, 2 Different times. Ryan Braun got caught last year but the person who collected sample did not follow procedure getting braun off on a technicallity. Fans were even defending him. then every caught up with him this year.
